This Just Sent A SERIOUS Message... | Daily San Francisco 49ers News & Rumors

On Wednesday, the forty-niners signed defensive tackle Naquan Jones off of the Vikings practice squad.

Uh, this is not to be confused with Daquan Jones, uh, who is not on the forty-niners.

This is Naquan Jones.

Uh, Naquan Jones is a massive dude.

He is listed at six-four, three hundred and fourteen pounds, but I really think he's bigger than that.

He's played between three-twenty and three-forty before in his NFL career.

He is a massive mountain of a man, right? This is your run defender.

This is your plugger.

This is the guy who's gonna sit in the middle of the line, disengage with those long arms, and wrap up the running back.

That's what he does.

That's his game.

And he's quite good at it.

Uh, so why was he available? Well, he's not much of a pass rusher to start.

Only six and a half sacks in five years in the NFL.

Uh, he was cut by the Texans this off-season after having honestly a pretty nice preseason in training camp.

But that Texans defensive line is just very deep.

It's a very hard room, uh, to make.

Uh, probably the hardest in the NFL for, for a defensive tackle.

So unfortunately, Naquan Jones gets cut at the cutdown day.

He signs with Minnesota's practice squad, another good defensive line, by the way.

Uh, and now he's a forty-niner.

Niners poached him off of the Vikings practice squad, and Naquan Jones is gonna get to play a lot more with San Francisco than he ever did for Houston or Minnesota.

He's been kind of a rotational player for most of his career, to be honest.

Uh, even his, his stops in Tennessee and Arizona and, and Los Angeles.

Uh, but I think, you know, he's gonna really get to play, right? Niners of course like to rotate their defensive linemen, but with the defensive tackle injuries right now, uh, and you know, the general lack of good play against the run, I think Naquan Jones is gonna have a real role pretty early for the Niners.
