You know, Keith, it doesn't have much to do with local media, but yesterday's approval of the Paramount Warner Brothers deal is a little troubling for a TV broadcaster, Nexstar, as they try to get their merger with Tegna over the finish line.
And you might say, well, what does one have to do with the other? Okay, well, TVND did a real interesting column this morning, and essentially they're saying that since California AG Ron Bonta seems to cave to the Paramount threats, or he seemed to, according to some people, that he was going to leave California.
But he'll be much harder, Bonta will be much harder on Nexstar and Tegna in getting their merger approved because they have so little leverage in getting their deal through the legal hurdles.
I mean, Nexstar has stations in every California market virtually, but...
Anyway, for the people on the Tegna cruise liner, pay no attention to the iceberg.
So as I say, it doesn't have much to do with local media, but it really could have an impact on that next star Tegna move.
Yeah, and as Spencer Pratt, the former mayoral candidate here in Los Angeles, likes to refer to him as Bonehead Bob Bonta, really bit off more than he can chew on leading this lawsuit to prevent the merger of Paramount and Warner Brothers Discovery, and primarily doing it at the behest of Bob Bonta's biggest benefactor, that is, Reid Hoffman, who owns Netflix.
And once Bob Bonta realized that Paramount was in fact leaving and taking 58,000 jobs and whatever other peripheral number of jobs out of the city of Los Angeles, Kind of what, you know what, not a good idea.
Whatever concessions he got were very minor, but we're breathing a sigh of relief here in Tinseltown because that would have been a real disaster to have Paramount leave.
