It's true.

Hi, everybody.

My name's Ross Watson.

I'm a game designer and author.

I've worked on over 100 different role-playing game products, some of the highlights being most of the Warhammer 40K role-play line, Torg Eternity, Star Wars Edge of the Empire, and Savage Worlds Rifts, just to name a few.

And today, we're going to talk about one of the oldest, not quite the oldest, but one of the oldest, D&D settings, and possibly the most prolific or most successful of those settings.

That is the Forgotten Realms.

Yeah, I would say it is at least the best known, right? Like at this point,

surely.

I would think so.

I would think so.

One of the things when I was doing my research, I just checked.

There are 40, that's four zero, 40 different board games based on Forgotten Realms.

And there are around 50, depending on how you count them, video games based on the Forgotten Realms.

There was more upcoming, I think.

Right.

And we're not even going to talk about the novels or the number.

And Forgotten Realms has been in every edition of D&D since Advanced.

Since Advanced D&D.

Yeah, it

sort of edged out Greyhawk, right? It just became like the thing.

Okay, I have something really interesting to talk about with how Forgotten Realms replaced Greyhawk.

If you want to get into that, I'm so excited to talk about that part.

Well, let's start with, like, the campaign setting concepts, right? We talked about the history of D&D.

We talked about, like, what was first up in the settings.

We've read the OG books.

We've seen that there's a very vague setting, like, if you're far enough back.

But at some point, Wizards and D&D wanted to include proper setting books in their game like give people an environment to run around in give people a space to play and this has been a staple of rpgs ever since right having a well-developed environments uh characters factions

that's right and the forgotten realms uh it's it's the lore here is massive i mean we could do a whole channel uh just forgotten realms i mean i i think annie and ryan would probably like have a heart attack if we suggested that but There's a ton of Forgotten Realms lore.
