Senator David McCormick is offering his support to Sean Parnell to become the new Secretary of the Army.

Parnell currently works for the Department of War as a senior advisor and assistant to the Secretary of War for Public Affairs.

Parnell is a southwestern Pennsylvania native who is a decorated U.S. Army veteran and a best-selling author.

The race for a Lehigh Valley congressional seat got a bit less crowded this past week as the state Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling that Andrew Tupone cannot appear on the ballot as a Green Party candidate in the 7th Congressional District.

The Green Party had objected to his candidacy, saying he had not been endorsed by them and improperly used their name to get on the ballot.

The seat is currently held by first-term U.S. Representative Ryan McKenzie, who is being challenged by Democrat Bob Brooks in the upcoming November election.

In the we-didn't-see-that-coming department, former Philadelphia union leader and Democratic Party boss Johnny Docherty has switched his party registration to Republican.

Docherty was serving a prison sentence after having been convicted of bribery and embezzlement.

Senator Rick Santorum led a list of speakers rallying support for protections for pre-born Americans.
