Altoona

Hey, we all do that.

But I get a lot of emails, and one in particular paraphrased the whole thing, and it is from Robbie in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

And Robbie made me realize that she said, I am a girl, but that's my name, Robbie.

Okay, Robbie, thank you for writing.

but the thought came to me that even if it did occur my soul would go straight to god and if he led me across all right it would be just another evidence of his care of me so i could not help singing to myself god will take care of you hallelujah A little Sunday school girl once told her mother she was never afraid to pass through a certain dark hallway leading to their home, because, she explained, I simply sing, God will take care of you, and I always come through safely.

This hymn was sung at each session of the State Christian Endeavor Convention, Altoona, Pennsylvania, in 1910.

At the close of one of the sessions, a man touched by the song inquired after salvation.

A little later, some delegates, while singing this song at their hotel, noticed several men at the door of a nearby bar room attracted by the singing.

Yeah, we do quite a bit, actually.

So the last few years, we've performed at Del Grosso Park in Altoona.

And we take some little tiny pieces there.

We get about an hour of stage time on their stage during what's called Del Grosso Dance Days.

We've got some other folks from other podcasts that want to be involved with us.

And so I think people, if this is your first time listening, and maybe, you know, railroading is not the... your life in like brad and i said you'll really still enjoy the show and enjoy the history of it and then if you want to get into modeling we're uh one shop stop you know we're it especially when it comes to our page that's the iron city in-scale page a lot of great different how-tos showcases videos and then our youtube page that brad and i are working on We'll be really hyped up here in the next couple of weeks because we're going to Altoona and we're going to get some good videos there and maybe some live feed there on our YouTube channel.

So we have a lot going on, Brad, and I think it's great that we're getting some new topics and maybe some new listeners for the first time.

Yeah, and this being the approximate, I mean, I don't know exactly how many episodes we'll end up doing this season, but it's fairly close to the midpoint, maybe a little bit beyond the midpoint.

And then, of course, with the big boy coming east, all that stuff.

I know I was at a couple large events in addition to just doing some private rail fanning like we did.

But the event at Altoona and the event that was at, especially the one at Steamtown up in Scranton, There were a lot of people who, you know, really were new to the railfanning hobby who were there at both places.

And at Altoona, it was a lot of the workers from Norfolk Southern.

Miss May Marsh, captain of the Girl Scouts of Altoona, brought a troop of Girl Scouts in uniform from that city, and after giving an outline of the work done by the troop and answering numerous questions on the Girl Scout movement, she invited the audience to the gymnasium where the regulation scout drill was given by the girls.

The following paper was read by Miss Marsh on Girl Scouts in the Public Schools.

The girls distributed the Liberty Loan literature, took in Liberty Loan subscriptions, besides taking a $50 bond in the name of the troupe, quite a number of the members owning their own bonds besides.

To pay for this bond, each girl pledged a dollar, either working for it or denying themselves some pleasure in order to make it up, thus learning the lesson of thrift.

besides all this outside work in the eight months of the troop's existence the girls have taken several hikes each fifteen miles long have given a demonstration drill in hollidaysburg by request and have passed their tenderfoot test of fifty questions Through the kindness of Dr. Layton, superintendent of the Altoona Schools and the Altoona School Board, the Girl Scouts are taking up the high school junior year domestic science course.

Besides this, they are studying first aid, signaling by semaphore and morse, and sewing.

They're negative.

Altoona, again, they started off the season with 14 straight losses.

And then Bradenton and the Marauders, again, low A, high A.

Not great, but Again, I think Bradenton played a lot better than the Marauders did.
