2026 Speedgoat 50k Race Preview

We'll talk about the course a little bit first.

We'll talk about the course records on both the men's and women's side.

And then we'll get into the storylines, favorite star courses, and also if we're on course record watch for the men's and women's fields.

Talking about the Speed Goat course, it takes place at Snowbird Ski Resort, which is in Little Cottonwood Canyon, I'm pretty sure, just outside of Salt Lake City.

It's known to be one of the...

Per UTB's description, they describe it as known to be the toughest 50K in the USA.

I would say that's debatable.

I think Run the Rudd is about as tough, if not a little bit tougher.

This course has a total of 11,400 feet of elevation gain.

A series of climbs brings runners to breathtaking views of the summit of Snowbird, Baldy, and Hidden Peak.

So essentially... uh three big climbs i want to say let me pull david sinclair's um travel file real quick yeah i want to say it's got three big climbs i know it starts off with a 4400 foot climb over like eight or nine miles um Yeah, so one, two, three.

Yeah, kind of four big climbs, I would say.

And...

Yeah, it's really more of a 53 or 54K.

It's about 33 miles, and it's got about 11,000 feet of vert, so 3350 meters.

I'm going to include in the show notes both David Sinclair's course record and Jen Lecter's course record.

So David Sinclair has won this race multiple times.

He won it in 2022 when I ran it.

He also ran it in 2024, and that's when he got the course record.

The course record on the men's side for Spico is 457.35. David Sinclair is the only person to ever go sub five hours.

Before that, Adam Peterman had the course record in 504 and change.

Before that, it was Jim Walmsley with high 504.

And then before that, I want to say it was Sage Cannaday and Killian Jornet.

So Speedgoat is a race that was created by the Speedgoat himself, Carl Meltzer.

And I want to say it was 20... or 2011 was the first running and it's always been a very very competitive 50k it's brought over some good european feel european men race it and it's also just uh has a nice history where the course has more or less stayed the same on the women's side the course record was set in 2025 yeah 2025 last year by Jen Lector.
