Alissa WalkerHostNot only are ballots going out this week, but, uh, the, the campaign is entering a whole new phase of noise and heat, because we are now in the, the season of independent expenditures.
And, uh, this is the point in the campaign where you are going to hear more about the candidates from other people and other groups than you're going to hear from the candidates themselves.
Uh, you know, you, you will, you will see the mayor and you will see Councilwoman Raman and you'll see them on social media and maybe a little bit of advertising from them, but it's gonna get dwarfed by, uh, by the independent expenditures.
And, uh, in one corner we have the carpenter's union, the Southwest Regional Carpenters, uh, and Aaron Sosnick, a, uh, a, a hedge fund manager who has invested heavily in Los Angeles politics, uh, in the past several years, particularly on mass transit and on road safety issues.
Uh, and in the other corner we have the Police Protective League and, uh, we have a promise of a significant contribution from Airbnb, and we have, uh, some of the, some of the other labor unions in Los Angeles through the County Federation of Labor.
So we've got Sosnick and Streets For All and the carpenters, which are pro-Raman, anti-Bass, and then you've got the police union and, uh, uh, those, the Airbnb, which are pro-Bass, anti-Raman, and they're gonna be spending big.
... uh, we have, uh, over 7 million, uh, donated through the, uh, anti-Bass, pro-Raman camp.
Uh, and on the other side, they haven't revealed how much they're gonna be spending yet, but, uh, we, we can anticipate millions and probably an equal amount from, from the other side.
And it, and it's on top of the fact that the mayor, um, and, uh, Council Member Raman are effectively tied in their own fundraising, right?
So all of these are adding on top of millions of dollars already raised by the campaigns themselves, plus matching funds.
