Travel Mom Leslie takes us through three of her family's biggest adventures yet: living like locals in Lucerne, Switzerland with her childhood best friend, a splurge-worthy night on Lake Como followed…
Any other travel tips you wanna share?
My biggest travel tip would be a more generic tip.
As a, a new mom, when Nash was first traveling, you know, it's easy to go and read all the blogs and all the things, and they're 90% good to guide you.
What to pack, how to maybe understand the timelines and adjusting to time changes.
But one thing that's stayed true to me is know your kid.
Because my child, again, is a bit of a homebody.
He knows the snacks he likes, and he's actually on the adventure side.
Again, would he do them? Probably, but I knew what he would find the most joy in.
And I think part of traveling is pushing your children to be experiencing it and feeling new things, but doing it in a way that is still comfortable for them and you so that you don't end up with a $400 bill for a shore excursion that you didn't even go on because you couldn't even get on the boat.
So that idea of just what they are and what they bring to their normal life are things that you can apply to travel, and not overthinking it because you read a blog that said, "Oh my God, this isn't the right thing to do." Yes, it may be for your family if it checks your boxes.
And again, those tips for me and what you do to educate and communicate are amazing things for people to learn, because most people don't have the tools or resources.
But then apply your kid.
Apply what you know about them, and make it magical for them because you know what they like more than anybody.
Absolutely.
To your point on cruises, there's so much to do on the boat, a lotta times the kids don't wanna get off.
And I also like your approach of thinking about, "I know this is what he's gonna like.
This is what me and my girlfriend really wanted to do." Just thinking about everyone and making sure there's some sort of highlight-
Absolutely
... or something people wanna get out of it.
And my mom friends talk about this a lot on our ladies trips, because those that have children and are traveling, you know, we're at stages of life where between how many working parents, the amount of sports activities, things, the world being the world, it, it's still your vacation.
Me going to Disney World is absolutely not for me." And I really do think if you can, make and create space for you or your partner to find that magical moment for you, too.
You're technically on vacation, and if you take your hard-working PTO and you're using it, yes, you wanna create core memories for your children, and you will, but you also matter.
