Moana 2

It's all this other stuff.

And then likewise, um, just looking at the success of Zootopia, uh, Zootopia 2, Moana 2, and Inside Out 2, all of those movies made $500 million more than I thought they were gonna make.

Another one that kind- well, didn't Minions: Rise of Gru do well with kids too? Like there was a memetic-

Oh, yeah

Then we've got Deadpool and Wolverine number three, another sequel from Disney.

Moana 2.

Did not care for it.

Didn't see it.

Don't know that I saw it.

Moana 2 is number three.

Number four is another sequel and another animated movie, but not a Disney movie.

Despicable Me 4.

Yeah.

And obviously Dwayne, it's not like Moana was a big hit.

He needs a win, so bring him in.

Yeah.

[laughs] You know?

Yeah, Moana was the opposite of a hit.

It did-

What's Rock going on? What, what does Dwayne have going on right now? What's Dwayne doing?

All right.

So then at number nine, which I would say... now we're getting into what were some of the big upsets as far as what, what the world had kind of predicted going into the summer, but at 126 million was Moana, which I think initially at least people who predict the box office thought that this movie was going to be huge.

Like so many of the other Disney live action remakes.

But I do remember you and I were, we're, I did put it way too high on my list.

But we were wondering, because this was coming so close after Moana 2, was this too much Moana 2 too soon? But Moana 2 was huge when that came out.

Yeah, I think I didn't realize there was a Moana 2.

I think you schooled me on that, actually.

I was still in the ballpark of like, is it too soon? And then you brought Moana 2.

At the

same time, you have $2 billion films and then you drop down to Moana.

Yeah.

That was what I was going to

That was the big sticker of this one, right?

From the pigs you had?

I'd say Moana is the biggest bomb of what that could have been.

Right.

But the overall numbers are even more remarkable given that there were a bunch of flops this summer.

Moana, Masters of the Universe, Supergirl, Mandalorian, and Grogu.

All big money losers, at least for the studios.

So if you remember, at the beginning of the summer, I had Scott Mendelson on.

I was not.

So I win on Minions and Monsters.

Next, Moana.

Man, this one, not great.

Disclosure Day I really liked.

There's stuff out there that's worth watching, but most things are Michael or Moana 2.

Yeah.

Maybe the truth is it's always been that way.

But if I had to put money on it, it's probably going to be, this isn't my choice, mind you.

It's probably gonna be Moana 2, which is coming out next November.

I just could imagine her leaping for joy at the opportunity to see that.

Not Godzilla minus one minus color, which is what I wanted her first movie to be.
