Pinchas, Leader for a New Generation

And now we have this Hashem's description of Pinchas and his name for him and his covenant with him.

And it's all very, very unusual.

I don't think there's anything that is in any way similar to this in all of Torah, this kind of narrative and this kind of a setup of a situation that

just from what is described on the page itself, shows you that, you know, this is an act of war on the part of Zimri and Cosby.

And I understand there's a whole narrative outside of the text that I'm hoping, I'm quoting from the oral tradition, wherein the, when the women of Midian had come and basically, you know, enticed the men of the tribes into to commit these acts of idolatry, that the men of Shimon were really a large part of that.

And so they went to their prince.

They went to Zimri and said, you know, what's going to happen to us? And so that's when this is supposed to have been the catalyst, is him grabbing the princes and running up to Moses in front of everybody, and almost a repetition of what happened with Korah.

And this bold challenge, like, are you going to tell me what I've done is wrong? And I'm thinking, like, what it sounds like it's wrong.

And I thought, well, maybe he was invoking the woman taken in the heat of battle.

I've suddenly forgotten what we call that in the Torah.

The Shetifat Torah.

Yeah, the captive woman, the captive woman.

And I thought, maybe that.

And then Moses was trying to sort this out.

But he wasn't coming from anywhere like that.

He was coming from a posture of total arrogance and lust and abandonment completely.

Mockery.

Mockery.

It was mockery.

You're setting

up the whole

scenario for us.

He was trying to rationalize it and then took it to its nth degree and You know, and causing, this is the second time where we have, you know, it invokes Korah.

Korah, Moshe falls on his face.

And at this point, with this act, it's almost, it's very similar in that Moses doesn't know what to say, right? You know.
