In this episode, Raquel Samayoa sits down with Amy McCabe to discuss her musical journey, from her early experiences with BLAST! and her studies at Northwestern University to her distinguished career…
I remember the first time I met her and I knew of her because I had done a show called Blast and I'd heard about this fantastic female trumpet player in Blast in the national touring cast.
well before she started her career and um and then afterwards she um won a lot of she won all the auditions and then um and then she she wound up in the marine band which is was my dream job and um but uh i'm very happy that she is there and uh she's a fantastic person and player as well so welcome amy
thanks so much thank you so much and um I remember hearing about you too and blast me like oh my gosh Raquel is so amazing and um I think it's really cool that we share that same formative experience um maybe more unusual and actually it's getting more normalized now to have people with DCI experience or um so many people have gone through blast now oh my gosh I we I think there's
three of us in the marine band now that have done some form
of blast in some iteration yeah and just in the dc military band area there's a lot of people that have gone from that show to military band so it's kind of cool
I mean, I had known of the Marine Band, but I didn't understand, like, how premier military bands worked or anything.
And, you know, he being a euphonium player from North Texas, you know, that was the primo job for them.
