S6E35 At Anchor

So this morning I've titled my sermon At Anchor.

And I did that before I heard your choir number.

That was I Don't Believe in Happenstance.

And so I'm very appreciative of that choir number.

Because what we're going to see from these four verses is that a lack of attention leads to a lack of blessing.

There's three things I want us to consider in this text.

One, that we pay attention.

Two, that there's a peril of neglect.

And three, that there is also a power to believe.

So how do you get someone's attention? I was in the Air Force in the United States, and it's simple in the armed forces.

You just say the word attention and people give it to you.

You want to draft some people into service? We can do that today.

I got a commission.

We can do this.

My son does dog obedience training.

With the dogs it's simple.

You say their name and you give them a command and after enough training the dog gets it.

One or two syllables each, you say freckles sit and freckles sits, freckles stay and freckles usually stays, freckles down and freckles lies down.

Maybe some people get their attention by yelling and screaming and banging on the pulpit.

Can I bang on this pulpit? I mean, I guess we'll have to fix it before we leave if I do.

So some people do that.

Maybe it's like a sheer force of will of what's being said.

You're going to have to listen to my American English for the next little while, so I'm going to have to work doubly hard to keep your attention probably.

Some people have that ability.

Some people have that power.
