I had the chance to chat with Patrick Burns on his company's 15th anniversary. He shared the journey that he and his wife took to start the business, the frameworks they use to hold themselves and…
Patrick BurnsGuestLukeHostYeah.
Well, today's a special day for another reason.
It's your 15 year
If you were to write one sentence to yourself 15 years ago, put it in an envelope and mail it back in time, what would be on that card that you wrote to yourself

It's been one of the hardest things that I've had to learn to do over the 15 years.
Yeah.

Why trust yourself? There's a lot of second guessing that happens inside your own head, at least in my head.

I don't know about you and kind of how you are if you're pretty solid, but depending on the seat that you're sitting in and in different companies, sometimes the decisions do land with you.

I'm a big person that believes in teams and having people have their opinions that they can kind of help weigh in on your decisions.

Sometimes if you have a direction to go and you're trying to appease people or you're trying to let people be a part of the process, but you definitely have a direction you want to head, it can actually be worse if you don't just trust your gut and say what you want and why.

And so then down the line, people might go forward with it, but there's not an understanding behind it.

One thing that's really made us stronger as a company over the past few years with my wife kind of leading the retail side of things, is we put together a really good accountability system for Palace and trust is a part of that.

But one thing that I feel is important is for your staff to feel trusted that you can equip them.

That's our job is to equip them and make sure that they have everything that they need to achieve the goals that you have set for them or the standards that you have set, the practices you have set.
Yeah.
