How to Build a Life - A Sermon From Luke 6:12-49 from Pastor Sam Bierig at Gashland Baptist Church on May 3rd, 2025.
In Luke chapter 6, Jesus calls his apostles and his disciples to himself, and he gives some steps.
He gives this how-to, and the combination of this last part of this chapter is sort of like a State of Union address, Most of us have known this passage in Matthew.
It's a smaller portion in Luke, but it's very similar teaching, right? So sort of like the State of the Union address, here it's called the Sermon on the Plain, usually in chapter 6.
And it's given again elsewhere, but it's this flat place where Jesus shows up, he gives a State of the Union address, and he combines it with sort of a how-to idea.
And then you might add one other idea that's sort of like a revolutionary, a revolution's pamphlet.
So you add this pamphlet idea, State of the Union, and how to, and that's a little bit of what's happening in Luke chapter 6, 12 to 49.
This is how you start a revolution and you keep it going, and it's an ethical turning over of a kingdom.
He's starting a kingdom, but he's also showing how this kingdom's going to prosper.
And the number one thing, the core thing that he says, and it's absolutely wild, He says, this kingdom is going to be defined by forgiving your enemy.
Luke chapter 6, verse 12, and we're going to read to the end of the chapter, and we're going to see this idea of sort of a State of the Union, revolutionaries pamphlet, as well as sort of a how-to idea, and they all merge together in this one significant and massive statement as he's launching off into his kingdom work, and he's revolutionizing the world, and it's never been the same ever since.
