How's everyone doing? How's, uh, coming off the, uh, tail end of CIFF, the Calgary International Film Festival? Was anyone able to catch any films? I was able to catch one.
Uh, unfortunately I was away for most of it.
Uh, but the gracious Ben Goodman of What's Your Niche?, every other Thursdays from 7:00 to 10:00 AM, uh, was gracious enough to take me to go see, uh, the Darlene Love, uh, music documentary that was playing on Sunday.
It was so good.
I mean, I'm- I'm always someone who loves music documentaries anyway, um, but that one itself was very, very interesting, and just the overall history of Darlene Love as well.
I know we talk a little bit about, um, a lot of background singers who don't really get, uh, as much recognition as they should, especially during the '60s, '70s, and '80s.
A lot of their voice is used, uh, in the back of a lot of, uh, famous bands and famous musicians, but they don't get any credit for it.
A lot of the times, the producer is the one who gets most of that, uh, and they're kind of put onto the sidelines.
Uh, and as well, a lot of the times, they get stuck in these contracts where they're not allowed to record with anyone else or under their own name.
They're kinda stuck being those background singers for a lot of bands.
Uh, and Darlene Love was one of those people, uh, that unfortunately was locked into a contract and was a- unable to make a, a name for herself until much later on in life.
Uh, for those of you who don't recognize her name per se, uh, she is most notably known for her Christmas songs, um, that were recorded originally in the '60s, but she was not able to actually perform until much later on, uh, in her career.
Um, as well as being in the music groups The Blossoms, um, Bob B. Sox & the Blue Jeans, um, as well as just being Darlene Love herself.
Again, it was a very, very good documentary.
But if anyone else has seen anyone, uh, or anything at SIFF, please let me know, 403-220-3991.
Well, what do we have on our hands for today? A little bit of disco, I'm thinking to myself, 'cause why not? Next track that you're about to hear is called I'm Lonely by Hollis P.
