Abby and I Recount Our Indescribably Awful Malaysia Boat Ride + Deaf Outreach in Western China (+ more w/ Dr. Claud) [China Compass]

And then I had this brilliant idea on our way back to China.

We were still living in China at the time.

This is just a year before I got arrested and deported.

But we were on our way back to China from Australia.

We had to fly through Malaysia.

And we had a day or two layover, not a long time.

We had a day or two between connections there.

And I had the brilliant idea, let's try to squeeze in another trip within a trip during that short time in Malaysia.

So we were going to land in Kuala Lumpur sometime in the afternoon.

And then we had a flight that evening from the mainland of Malaysia over to a place called KK, which stands for Kota Kinabalu.

Kota Kinabalu, which is in Borneo.

It's in East Malaysia.

It's a large city over there.

And there was a hotel there that I had booked for us to stay at, similar to the one we're at now here.

and I had to use points to do this.

So I had this great thing.

Oh, it's going to be a really cheap flight, nice hotel, but really cheap price for the hotel.

We're going to fly in there.

We're going to have half a day or a day there, and then we're going to take a boat ride from KK over to an island called Labuan Island, L-A-B-U-A-N, Labuan Island.

I'm telling you this, Abby, too, because you don't remember all these planning details.

You just were along for the ride.

And we're going to go to Le Bon Island.

And then we're going to spend a night there or so a day.

And then we'll fly back to Kuala Lumpur and then back to China.

It'll be a nice extra little trip within a trip, real cheap, real easy to do, but fun exploring some new places.
