So we were talking a little bit offline about these relievers, and people are always looking for relief pitching help, it feels like, in our game, doesn't it? People are looking for guys that can get saves.
Moreover, some are looking for help with ratio controls and also getting some strikeouts.
Dave, there were a couple of guys that you wanted to highlight that we were going to talk about that we might be able to keep an eye on for saves down the road.
He started the season on the team after impressing last year, and Overall, he's got a 157 ERA and a 1.08 whip.
He's striking out not as many as you'd like to see, but he does have some good pitches, including a changeup that has an 0.95 batting average, supported by a 123 XBA and a 41% whiff.
So he does a great job of masking things and making them look just, you got to make that split decision.
So he's someone out of the pen that I think if anything happens to Mason Miller, he could be an option down the line.
And I know they're also thinking about extending him into a starter that was the talk now he's been so good as a closer this year i i don't know if they start that process but if the padres are out of contention maybe down the line they decide to you know give mason miller two or three innings to try and stretch him out as that starter and then they transition someone else into the closing role
Rodriguez is an interesting case study because of the fact that he gets such a high ground ball rate to, you know, those middle inning guys really make their mark.
You're noticing that more around the league, aren't you? That these middle inning guys have incredible ground ball rates.
