Scratch

So they were using some tools which is not necessarily industry standard.

For example, there's a tool called Scratch.

It was designed by MIT.

It's fantastic.

It's brilliant.

to use that to teach kids the fundamentals of coding, but no industry standard company or no real company that does AAA titles uses Scratch to design their games.

It's literally a platform for kids to learn.

And I've been to some of the best private schools across the country.

... um, a good website for games that I think, and I, I hope are still being developed, mostly by kids, um, is the Scratch website, which-

the Scratch Jr stuff.

Or well, m- had in mind not, not to do, uh, not to implement in this part of the, at this stage, but in the far future, is, is a system like comparable to, uh, this, um [lip smack] it's a children's software.

It's called Scratch, and it gives you like big, uh, puzzle pieces with functionality.

And so you could, uh, uh, uh, in that sense, construct your own, uh, conflict.

So it's like your characterization gives you big chunks of functionality.

lumberjack yeah that's crazy i had a name for him at one point because like he was unnamed for a while yeah i don't remember what it was that is that is really good

But yeah, the guy from my Scratch game, Treesylvania, it's a game where you're a vampire in Transylvania and you farm trees.

But yeah, his name's Lumberjack.

He's a vampire with green overalls.

And that's literally it.

That's such a good name.

Like, no one was forcing me to do things.

I was learning to code, building Bitcoin, Bitcoin from Python and Scratch.

And I get not everyone's gonna do that, making albums, like.

But like, I really think there's a crisis right now, and if we just laugh, like it's funny in some ways 'cause it sounds so absurd, but like there's gonna be a giant like Luddite/class war, and it doesn't have to go that way.

... tech nonprofits, right? We, we look at, uh, uh, big, uh, business schools and all the startups they incubate, but there's actually a, a nice tradition of amazing tech nonprofits being incubated out of academia.

I think of like Scratch.

Uh-huh.

Uh, love Scratch, coming out of the MIT, right? So like, uh, universities here have a role to play, and yes, if they focus on boring things like tooling, uh, [laughs] we can go really far.

It's that when I was in middle school, I, like, went to the- this one-week summer camp of, like...

In this one-week summer camp, I, um, like, learned programming with Scratch, which is that, like, drag and drop blocks, um, in-browser, like, programming language by MIT-
