Tea Sindbæk Andersen, Zlatko Jovanović and Nikola Lero on green activism in Southeast Europe

Green activism is nothing new in Southeast Europe, but in recent years we have seen an upsurge in environmental mobilization in the region. This is a part of more general public protests against authoritarian and corrupt regimes and in reaction to foreign investments and EU-backed extraction projects. Historian Zlatko Jovanović and anthropologist Nikola Lero join CApE Fellow Tea Sindbæk Andersen to discuss how civil society and green movements are caught between capitalist interests, repressive governments with little concern for the environment, and EU’s demand for raw materials for electrification.
