I actually will mention one because it will be very relevant to have in mind when we're going to talk about today's situation.

In Slovenia, in northern Slovenia, around the city of Maribor, second largest city in Slovenia.

In many ways, the biodiversity is good and those things.

It's recognizable,

And the thing is that they made these big plans of making some hydropower plants on this river of Mura around Maribor.

And the argument was we're not going to build one huge one that destroys the nature.

Friends began to openly worry that Tesla had succumbed to despair and drowned himself in the river.

But the young man eventually turned up in the town of Maribor in what is today Slovenia, where he was arrested for vagrancy and was deported back to Croatia.

The rollercoaster ride of Tesla's university years, from star student to pool hustler to homeless person, I think could be viewed as a microcosm of the tumultuous ups and downs of his entire life.

He was either rocketing towards scientific breakthroughs or spiraling down towards mental collapse.

You might remember a couple of episodes ago, I mentioned that I was traveling to Slovenia to attend the European Geographies of Sexuality's conference held at the University of Maribor and organized by Peter Kuma, Dylan Collar and other colleagues.

It feels pretty nice to be coming back to the podcast room having had that experience under my belt.

I just had a brilliant time there in Maribor with quite a few listeners as well.

So shout out to you if you are tuning in for the first time or you're a returning listener who I met at the conference, where the theme was discussing from queer peripheries, undesiring the centre.

Reflecting on the conference and the conversations that I had there, I think this was a great location to bring geographers of sexualities and other sexuality and space scholars from around Europe to perhaps a lesser known Slovenian city, where at least for those three days Maribor was able to serve as a kind of centre for spatial and sexual knowledge production and exchange.

There were around 140 delegates, if I understand correctly.

So the conference was super vibrant.
