Don't Know What To Do - A Ranma 1/2 Podcast
Jun 9, 2026 · 2 hr · 14 segments
Happy Pride Month! To celebrate, we welcome back Nobody to help us talk about Ranma's complex gender. Rumiko Takahashi doesn't think about it, and neither should you, but if you decided to think about…
I hope everyone is ready for, for, for festivities, because there, there are certain topics I simply have not breached because, I'll be honest, I never felt like I was the best person to discuss this.
We gotta talk about gay stuff.
[laughs] Ah.
I, I, I, I say this about myself, 'cause, like, I f- I feel like the most relatable thing about what I've read from Rumiko Takahashi is just the whole, "I don't think about that" quote.
[laughs]
Like, even, even though that quote had nothing to do with gender or sexuality, like, it's so easy to apply to everything.
And I'm like, "Yeah, that's me.
That's how I approach things.
I don't really think about that.
Neither should you.
It's not important.
Just do whatever."
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think that is the most correct assumption that could possibly be made.
[laughs]
Yeah.
And, and, like, that's cool for my personal life.
Uh, maybe not the most satisfying of answers when, when talking and answering questions on, on a podcast.
So I have to, you know, even though I myself am not super invested in gender stuff, it is very clearly, like, a huge part of Ranma, and especially with the fandom.
It's, it's almost impossible to ignore.
Like, it- especially in modern context, the premise itself invites these thoughts that I bet Rumiko Takahashi never thought of in 1987, but, like, too bad.
That's, that, that's what she did.
Yeah.
