Game 3 of the NLCS is today in L.A. 5 p.m., very specifically, Pacific Time. Blake Snell on the bump. The Dodgers trail the Brewers 2-0 in this 7-game series. And that is concerning. How…
Shohei has been receiving a ton of attention, much of it negative for a slump that he's mired in at the plate, linked, no doubt, to various injuries we know about his knee, his bicep, probably some things that we have no clue about.
The speculation has turned to what's the over-under on the amount of surgeries Shohei will have in the offseason? There was some reporting and a ton of rumors that indicated that Dave Roberts was going to have a hard conversation with Shohei about the possibility of his sitting out for Game 3.
And since we released our episode yesterday, that conversation happened, and both Dave Roberts and Shohei addressed it in the media.
And we had heard from Doc via Katie Wu, Dodger's beat writer, that this conversation was going to take place.
Immediately, speculation turned to would it be a conversation about benching Shohei, which many, many people in the media are saying is a good idea.
Some, along with many fans... are suggesting that Josue DiPaola, our 21-year-old September call-up rookie, should play in place of Shohei.
Anyway, here's what Doc had to say, and I thought it was interesting how he compared the situation to Freddie Freeman in 2024.
A great conversation.
He's adamant.
He feels good enough to be in there.
He's close to finding something with his swing, and I feel great about it.
And so, yeah, he wants to be in there and help us win a ball game and win a championship.
So great conversation, and I'm excited about having him in there.
Well, to be clear, it was never a benching.
It was more of giving him – it's kind of what we did with Freddie in 2024.
In 2024, he was ailing, wasn't feeling great.
Give him a couple days potentially to then reset.
It's more of, hey, man, if you're not feeling good enough that you can feel like you can perform up to your ability, then we'll pivot.
We'll give you a couple days.
And talking to him, he feels like he's close to finding something and was close yesterday in finding something mechanically.
With that, I'm excited.
