Tommy Lasorda

Welcome back to Dodger Stadium.

You know, sometimes his colorful persona kind of overshadows his baseball expertise, but the fact remains that Tommy Lasorda has now won six division titles and four pennants.

Of course, most guys celebrate with champagne.

who is being introduced along with the other Dodger non-starters.

He is tomorrow night's starting pitcher and told Marv Albert earlier that he would be ready to go on two days rest if he had to if it came to that in Game 7, just as his manager, Tommy Lasorda, said he would.

There's Hershiser.

He could be used as a late-inning pinch hitter.

Tommy Lasorda will go with Mike Davis as his DH.

Lasorda just hopes that the movie script can continue for him here in Oakland.

And speaking of Hollywood, Marv Albert and I will step to the plate and take a few cuts as film critics when the World Series pregame show continues.

It's an exultant Dodger clubhouse, an outstanding comeback win for the Dodgers who came back from everything this year.

You know, it seemed the last three series, the Houston-Montreal series, and then falling behind the Yankees 2-0, it seems that's what it took for this Dodger ball club to come back.

I think that's right.

And boy, you guys deserved it.

Tremendous comeback win.

Thank you very much.

think Chuck Tanner and...

Tom Lasorda or hearing footsteps? I wouldn't be surprised.

Larry Bowe is sneaking up on them.

I mean, the Padres, the way they got off, there's no way they weren't going to finish

Only Sparky Anderson has longer tenure in the American League with the same club than La Russa.

Only Tommy Lasorda in the National League.

He's regarded by most as a good manager.

But the manager pays the price when a team stumbles and this team has had its troubles.

Now...

That doesn't really explain it that well, but Tommy Lasorda, in his book The Artful Dodger, has a great explanation of it.

He said, quote, On the islands, Ricky would say, Branch Ricky, not Ricky Henderson, it would take two fellas to gather coconuts from a palm tree.

There was the coconut catcher, who stood safely on the ground, and the coconut snatcher, who climbed the tree and threw the coconuts down to the coconut catcher.
