On today's episode, Nick and Trey are back and breaking down a very eventful trade deadline around the league and for the Nats. What did we think about the trade of Luis Garcia and Foster Griffin?…
Yeah, I think in general, I mean, with the three series, including the one we're currently in right now with Philly, Paul Tappone and company truly waited as long as they could.
I think...
And I also don't think it was a bad mindset, but I think in a lot of ways, they were set on selling or flipping, right? That's kind of the term I've used, like the Curtis Mead trade, for instance.
I don't view that as a sell.
I view that as a flip, right? You're trading from a position of strength for a position of desperate need.
And obviously, we haven't gotten... to see Connelly early yet, but we imagine just like the front office imagines that that's going to be an important piece for our future and immediate future, not like four or five years down the line, because we got some 17 year old and a ball or whatever.
Right.
So, um, You know, I think to Boney and company, they were trying to wait as long as possible.
Like, can this team beat the Blue Jays who were just in the World Series last year? Can this team take three or four from the Braves right up to the deadline and then really close the gap? Right.
Because I think.
and I obviously don't know, but I think if that had happened, you probably see them hold on to Garcia and Griffin.
Who, who will talk about, you see that go for a bullpen arm, not like a double a bullpen arm, right.
You see, We have a plethora of infielders that are looking pretty good in the minor leagues.
You see some of them dealt at the deadline for more bullpen or just pitching help in general, right? And you kind of see them position themselves a little bit more given that we were either in a playoff spot at the deadline or just on the outside looking in.
But instead, you know, we lose what – Five of six going right into the deadline and the decisions pretty much made for you.
Right.
Deadline was on Monday.
And at that point, we kind of knew.
Right.
Cause like that was just not a position you could tell he was just not comfortable in that position, but it just kind of the nature of the business and everyone knew nobody blames Brady, but you kind of just knew at that point, given how poorly the team had been playing.
