On Today's episode, Nick and Trey are back and sharing their thoughts on what has been a pleasantly surprising yet often frustrating first half of the Nationals' season. Spoiler alert, the Nationals'…
Nick, I feel a little bittersweet at this point in the season because the Nationals record sits at a very respectable 48 and 49 considering where this team has been over the past five years or so.
And yet it feels like we could be so much better if some things...
In the bullpen, we're going right, but at the same time, a lot of really, really good things have happened in the first half for the Nats.
I'm pretty sure that we're in agreement that for the most part here, the organizational changes have worked, and it's only been a half a season, and we've already gotten so many results.
So excited to get into it and talk about certain games, certain series, and just the team overall.
Yeah, I think that's a very logical place to start where, you know, like we said, we're at the halfway point, so to speak, with the All-Star break.
So the first half is over.
If you were talking to us back in April, March, you know, January and said, hey, we're going to get to the All-Star break.
The Nats will have three All-Stars and they're going to be 48 and 49.
We would have been over the frickin moon.
Wouldn't believe
you
would not have believed you.
The odds would have been astronomical and we would have taken it without even reading the fine print.
Right.
And that is a very fair and totally fine way to look at things.
And it's also very fair and fine to look at the way this team has been and feel frustrated because in so many ways, particularly offensively, they're doing everything they can.
And then some, we are leading major league baseball and run scored.
It's kind of back and forth with the Dodgers, but basically we're leading baseball through almost a hundred games and run scored.
We have three guys with 20 or more home runs.
It's crazy.
And that doesn't even include, you know, the lower level guys who have completely turned the trajectory of their careers around things to, to help with this coaching staff and print office, right? There's so many good things.
And yet you can't help, but feel frustrated because we're through 90, what 97 games of the season.
And the Nats have blown 27 saves, 27.
Like I think the MLB record is 46 or 47.
