I started work when I was nine.

Got a job with the Royal Shakespeare Company and I worked with them for five years doing all the kids parts.

I was a toilet cleaner on Friday night and on Monday morning I arrived on set and there's two chairs.

One's got Benedict Taylor on the back of it and the one next to it's got Bette Davis on the back of it.

And Bette Davis is sitting in it.

I don't know if I gave up acting as much as it gave up me.

It was a big wake-up call for me.

It's what I took for granted was not everybody's experience.

And if I could make a positive difference, I had to do it.

So it became my life's work.

It's become more important than anything else.

So Ben, welcome to the studio.

Thanks for coming in today to talk to us about your creative moves that you've

made in your career.

What we'd like to do for this show, we start off with when you left school and went into the workforce, and then your journey through your various careers to what you're doing now.

But I do appreciate that you went into the workforce when you were at school, so we're probably starting a bit earlier with you.

But if you could talk us through that, that would be great.
