Now time for an episode from the NBC run of Sherlock Holmes from 1955, with actors Sir John Gielgud and Sir Ralph Richardson in the adventure of the Golden Ponsonet, one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 56 short stories and part of the 13 that were collected in the 1905 book, The Return of Sherlock Holmes.

which was a big deal for fans at the time, as Doyle had essentially killed Holmes off in the 1893 story The Final Problem, making this collection a big part of the relaunch of Sherlock Holmes in the public eye.

And Alec Guinness, you talked to Alec Guinness, who did a little movie a few years earlier, and said, Oh yeah.

You know, something like, yeah, go try these, these young film guys and all their special effects.

haphazard now I still think this works fine because this is just what they're going for right it's an ensemble cast there really is no main character I did get the sense that a bunch of stuff was left on the cutting room floor I would imagine the original cut of this was over three hours and they trimmed it down like for example is it not Trevor Howard who plays the British ambassador in Switzerland is it Ralph Richardson
