We have the volleyball team sweeping 3-0 on the road when they were playing Wayne State University Warriors Invitational Tournament.
This was August 28th through 29th, and this was where the volleyball team earned tournament and Great Midwest Athletic Conference distinctions.
The school knows that our volleyball team has a fantastic record, and this is honestly no surprise to anyone.
They defeated Wayne State University Warriors with 56 kills and 4 aces, winning 3-1, and also swept Quincy University 3-0 with 42 kills and 9 aces.
Ellie Fless, who is a junior and middle outside hitter for the team, led against IUP with 12 kills, and junior middle hitter Caroline Lanachek and Fless dominated in their game against Wayne State with 16 kills.
At this tournament, Lanachek was also selected for the all-tournament team, and Fless was also named GMAC North Division Volleyball Player of the Week.
Two recent graduates of Hillsdale College, Phaedra Kelly and Etha Bourgeois, who graduated in the spring of 2026, were recently nominated Fulbright students.
This is a program that's sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and it gives grants to graduated American seniors and graduate students who will go do research or study abroad or teach English.
Both Kelly and Bourgeois said that they would not have applied for the scholarship or advanced in their academics if it hadn't been for the professors that they had at the college.
While Bourgeois is studying in Budapest, he will be editing a series of correspondence for publication between the historian John Lukacs and American diplomat George Kennan.
Kelly said she looks back fondly on her time studying German at the college and enjoyed watching students advance from not being able to speak a word of the language to having conversations in just a year.
And she'll be going through that same process as she's teaching grade schoolers in Germany.
We have three Hillsdale College students nominated as finalists for national awards from the College Broadcasters, Inc.
She's nominated for Best Regularly Scheduled Entertainment Program for her episode of Story Behind the Song, Stephanie Childress.
Senior Luke Miller is also a finalist for Best Documentary for his work Commander-in-Chief Lyndon B. Johnson.
And finally, Erika Kaiba, who graduated in 2026, is nominated for Best Podcast for her program episode The Poetry Fix, Old Ironsides.
The first place winners for each section will be announced at the CBI convention in October.
