Liam and Kay welcome Greg Harley AKA, Greg the Piper on the show to talk about his piping experiences. and to join them on a discussion about the differences between Military and Civilian Pipe Bands.
What a fantastic weekend it was from the, the 11th of September onwards.
After the, the World Championships we still have a, a couple of, um, competitions down south, Chatsworth being one of them.
But this is a, a big event in the diary to... just for all bands to chill, to mingle, and have a drink together, socialize together, and just play pipes [laughs] together pretty much.
So we all went down on the, the 11th of September, me and Kieran, we went down with the Accrington Pipe Band, as we do.
And you're, you're catered for pretty much as soon as you get down there by the, the Bideford Youth Pipe Band, who run the, the event.
Um, it started off on the, the Friday, that we were at the, the local rugby club.
All the bands, we just take a turn of playing a little set, two or three sets, and then another band will come on, and then we'll all play together at the end.
And then a- also there's disco on afterwards as well, and plenty, plenty drinking, plenty drinking.
On the, the Saturday we all end up back on the, the field at the, the rugby club, as we have a, a rehearsal for becoming a massed pipes and drums on the, the quayside in Bideford.
So it's all part of the, the Bideford Carnival, which happens on the, the Saturday night.
All the bands are put into the parade at different positions, and it's, uh, it's a very short parade for the pipe bands, because we do, um, about 10 minutes and then we're taken off the main carnival route where all the other floats go around Taken off at a pub, which is very handy.
And then we rejoin the, the carnival and do another 10 minutes onto the quayside at Bideford.
Um, at the end of the, the parade, we're all given a, a warm Cornish pasty, which it tastes absolutely amazing.
Then all the bands, we march individually, um, along the, the quayside of Bideford.
