Basel

I studied chemistry in Switzerland, University of Bern.

And as many chemists at Swiss universities do, I started my career in the pharmaceutical industry in Basel.

So, in fact, by training, I'm a physical chemist, but I wanted to do something, well, getting out of the lab and getting more into real life, if I may say.

And so I decided to become an industrial chemist.

So I started at Roche in Basel as a manufacturing chemist, making APIs by the tons.

So that was really a fascinating task, being on the shop floor every day and working with the manufacturing team to get these API campaigns done.

Really, really interesting stuff.

This time it was Novartis.

And so, you know, when I came home, I was very, you know, like very respectful of that, but still wanted to do some research.

And I found a website created by a woman who works in Basel, Switzerland.

Her name is Dr. Felicitas Mader.

And she has a website where she just outlines like everything you could possibly want to know about the history of this fiber of sea silk or bisis, like interchangeably called.

I desire to state that the initial fact upon which I have founded this story is within my own experience.

I travelled from Calais to Basel by the Engadine Express in the latter end of July, 1902,

On the main issue as to supremacy, the papal authority in the end prevailed over the conciliar.

The Beginnings of the Catholic Revival, Part 2.

The reformation of the monastic orders recognized as necessary at Constance and actually taken in hand at Basel had made some progress even in countries still in communion with Rome, and wherever an attempt to enforce it was made by the Church or State, academical, literary, and general public opinion were as a rule ready with their support.

Still, a wholly new impulse was given to the movement in the period now under discussion.

Switzerland.
