On August 19, 2026 a 50% US tariff will be applied to Canadian Arts, Crafts, and Jewelry exports into the United States and this will destroy the arts sector in Canada. Will governor Carney do anything to challenge it? Will his government support artists and makers? Or will he continue to be a no-show at the negotiation table as our trade agreements expire and creative industries collapse? Will his government continue to pick and choose who gets grant support or funding or even awards and accolades based on race and identity, as is currently the case in the Canadian arts sector? Is Carney a governor or a pied piper or both? Will he do anything for Canadian artists at all or allow our art. crafts, and jewelry sector to completely collapse?
