In this episode we celebrate 21 years of AmateurLogic.TV. Bill Brown's Huntsville Balloon Forum and launch. Emile talks about his GMRS station. Tommy explores mesh devices with very low power usage…
You know how I always like to keep up with the digital side of things, and there's a lot of chatter about the new WSJTX release candidate, which has the, uh, J-T-T-Y mode in it, or JTTY.
So everybody's talking about it.
Everybody's saying what it's like and what have you.
So I decided, "Hey, why not ask my good old friend AI what makes it different than, like ..." 'Cause they, they do mention it's keyboard to keyboard, right? Remember that? We used to chat with the, uh, PSKs-
... back in the day, and, uh, with Ham Radio Deluxe.
And that's, that's what they're saying it is.
However, when I asked the question, you know, "What makes JTTY better than, let's say, PSK31?" And I got quite a screen full of, uh, items.
Uh, the modulation type is 4GSK versus the phase shift keying of, uh, PSK, the BPSK and the QPSK, if you remember.
And the bandwidth, about 125 k- uh, hertz instead of 31 hertz, even though they had different sizes of the BSKs and PSKs.
One of them was 125, I think.
Um, and the speed, uh, PSK actually is a little bit faster.
Uh, 50 words per minute, 31 baud versus a 31 per minute on JTTY.
Um, it said, it says you can do up to 60 if you use their macros.
So I, I wanna say that some of the differences are, though, the, you know, the guys from WSJTX are hellbent on signal, right?
Low signal ...
Yeah, and decoding when you probably can't even see the signal, that kind of a thing.
And that's, they say that made it in their version.
There's no, none of the timing.
You know how you had to have your clock set-
