It's a very sharp statement that the conditions that led... to the decline of the ANC electorally will begin to attach themselves to the GNU.

What are these conditions? Are they unemployment? Are they growth? Are they living standards? Are those the things that you're saying the people will begin to say GNU doesn't work and we'll have to punish it the same way we punished the ANC?

Well, what motivates people in their voting behavior? Anywhere in the world, South Africa is no different.

I learned this when I started my career, it must be more than 20 years ago, because when I started, it's been around 2004 then, ANC support was increasing.

And when the mainstream view, what I call the B-grade analyst community's view, was that what we were seeing was liberation loyalty voting, which was simply to say, if you actually are honest, I'm trying to be honest, to say that ANC voters don't think.

And I was fortunate to be in a team of some really bright guys, and I learned a lot from them.

And we saw that at odds, the main view of the time was that service delivery had failed.

We doubled the number of people in employment in the first decade, and it was very good.

And the service delivery numbers I've quoted for so many years, so anyone that's seen me knows what I'm saying.

And we reached another conclusion, which sounded profound, but was actually just basic.
