Hebrews: A Look At Angels | Steve Scoggins

I want to welcome you to the Wednesday night Bible study.

We have started last week a study of the book of Hebrews.

We just began again children's programs, so some who were not here last week, I want to give just a little bit of background reminders.

The book of Hebrews was written by Paul to try to urge Jews who were hesitant to cross the line to become Christians.

If they did so, there were two consequences.

The Romans had given the Jews responsibility Basically religious freedom.

They did not have to do the mandatory once a year worshiping the Roman gods.

But once you became a Christian, you lost that and you could die.

You could be persecuted.

The other thing that was a pressure on a Jew who would like to become a Christian is they would probably lose their family.

They'd walk away from the only culture they knew.

And so the thrust of this book is Paul is basically trying to convince them to cross the line.

And his biggest phrase that he uses over and over again is that Jesus is greater than.

In verses 1 through 3 last week, we saw how Jesus is greater than the prophets because he's God's last and perfect word.

Today, we're going to look at the subject, the rest of chapter 1. that Jesus is greater than the angels.

So I'm going to be able to do a topical sermon on angels as well as look at this text.

But let me read to you from Hebrews chapter 1, verses 4 through 14.
