Hello, and welcome to We're Obsessed, a pop culture conversation pod here on the Ringer Podcast Network.

I'm Jodie Walker.
And I'm Nora Princiotti.

And Nora, last week if we were in hell, I would say this week we are just really trying our best to find little ways to avoid it.
Yeah.
I think I'm fine.

Find little ways to make things interesting.
I feel good.

Like [laughs] really latching on to, like, freaky little guys and stuff.
Can I tell you something that happened to me this weekend?

Yes.
Which was that, um...
Or no, not even this weekend.
Uh, yesterday, which was Monday as we're recording this, I was really grumpy because w- we got, like, a little bit of, not that bad, but, like, kind of bad news about, um, my never-ending apartment project, and I was grumpy.
And so my husband took me to get an ice cream cone [laughs] and then I felt better.

That's correct.
[laughs]

That was the right thing to do.
That's kind of what feels like it's going on, like we're all just sort of trying to get through it with a little treat.

Oh, I'm always giving myself a little ice cream cone.

I mean, q- q- quite literally.

I have, I have been eating a lot of ice c- I was gonna say, I, like, started to pull from our Instagram responses of, like, what everyone was obsessed week this, with this week, 'cause literally every answer was Jimothy.

Every answer was Jimothy.
Yeah.
Yeah.

There was, like, a, like-
Yeah

... a Stray World Cup or, you know, Poop Parasite or something.

Everything was Jimothy, and the rest were just, like, people in chaos.
[laughs]

Someone was like, "I'm eating a lot of mourning popsicles." [laughs]
Okay.

Okay.
And then someone-

Okay, okay, okay.

[laughs]
That is the most-

It's all coming back to me
...
Jodie-coded thing I've ever heard.
[laughs]

I know.

I know, and I personally have had, like, the most Jodie-coded last week that even I could have.

Nora, this weekend I did a little bit of shopping and, um, they had cookies out at Cezanne and I put s-
Wow

... several in my purse on the way out the door.
[laughs]

Forgot about it.

Everything in my life is covered in powdered sugar.
Yeah.
[laughs]

I put 'em, like, loose in a napkin [laughs] and totally forgot.
What type of cookie?

Um, well, you know, by the time I got to 'em it was honestly hard to tell.
Unrecognizable.

Unrecognizable cookie.
Identified by their dental records only.

I think [laughs] they were, like, a bit of a...

They were almost chewy once you got into them.

Again, that could've been with time, and to be very clear, yeah, I did eat one [laughs] once I got to them.

And, like, I feel like now my keys, my loose keys aren't working as well 'cause they're covered in powdered sugar.
[laughs]

I'm not to mourning popsicles yet, but at this rate I will be.

Uh, someone was like, they said something about a Snickers ice cream bar that was, like, as though they had discovered it for, like, for everyone.

They were like, "You gotta get yourself to a Snickers ice cream bar." [laughs] They're the best thing you've ever had.

And I just wonder if they just discovered that they exist.
Yeah.

And we love you, and we love all of you and your mourning popsicles.
No, totally.
Because it also, like, doesn't it actually kind of make you feel better about the world and yourself and everything that that shit works?

Yeah.

Okay.
Like, my ice cream made me feel completely better.
[laughs]

Yeah, 'cause nothing's real.

Whatever the little, you know, whatever the apartment-
Right, it's fine

... setback was-
It's fine

... it's gonna, it will be healed.

It will be healed with ice cream.

I did write this one down from Brittany because it made me laugh, what she's obsessed with this week.

Figuring out laundry.

Like, are scent beads okay? Cold water only? Softeners? No? What the fuck?
[laughs] Um, okay.
We don't have time right now, but I do have thoughts on this subject.

I know, I know.

I, that was actually what made me stop writing them down is I was like, "I have so much to say about laundry."
Okay.
We're, we're tabling it for another time, but at, at some point there's gonna be a We're Obsessed seance on the topic of laundry.

Hey, Brittany, um, pick it back up with us.

No to scent beads, get Folax.

That's, I'm gonna keep it there.
Yes.
I love Folax.

Folax.
Folax.

It's, it's in my Worth the Money list, which is coming up later, and we need to, we do need to reserve time for.

I told you what my treats, my little treats were this weekend.
Yes.
They're, I mean, not little treats of the sweet treat variety-

Mm-hmm
...
but little treats for the soul, the mind.

Well, right.

They don't have to be just ice cream, although they mostly are.

I did see a psychic.

Um, this was for a somewhat normal reason, which was that a couple of friends and I went to the opening of the tarot history exhibit at-
Right

...

the Morgan Library.
Yes.
Very cool.

Very cool, very interesting.

... learned a lot.

I would say it's, it's been a while since I, I know you turned everyone on to the, the Jerry Saltz newsletter and, and getting them back into the, the museum streets.

It's, I feel like it's been a while since I went into a new exhibit and was like, "I really didn't know this at all."
[laughs]

"They did not teach this in history class."
Which part?

Which is that tarot is just a game.

Was just a game.

Like, it was, it's just a deck of playing cards from, like, the 14th century.
Right.

And then in the late 18th century, they're scraping by with that.

Basically 19th century.

Couple of French guys were like, "You know what we're gonna do? Turn this into magic." Just, like, openly make something up.

I know if you subscribe-
I sh- I didn't know that.
That's really interesting.

It's really interesting.

This, the exhibit is, is very cool.

Like, I can't believe some of the stuff they've preserved, and [laughs] I just, like, I experienced it like a twist in a film.
Yeah.

Like, when I...

It kind of goes in a circle, and when I got to the 18th century, I was like, "What the fuck?" But hone- honestly, when I started it, I was like, "What the fuck?" 'Cause I w- I thought we were going in there, like, I was going into, like-
Right, this was supposed to tell your future, and this is how people-

I was gonna be learning about divination.
Yeah.

And then it was like, doop-a-doop-a-doo, everybody in Italy loves playing cards.
They love to play cards.

For several centuries, and then someone was like, "No, it's magic." And really that is how moch- most spirituality [laughs] starts.
Sure.

Sure.
Just a couple Frenchmen with a sense of whimsy.

And I want to be clear here that, like, it may sound like I'm ragging on tarot cards or not subscribing to them, and if you are someone who's like, "I love tarot," or, "I love my CoStar app," or what have you, I support you.

Because then, it, as a part of this exhibit, if you got there early, twist, I didn't, um, you could get a $10 psychic reading.

They, like, had a tarot-
Oh.

They, uh, they had a tarot reader there.

We all got there at different times.

None of us were early enough.

Totally missed it.

So then we were like, "Well, we have to go to a psychic." We were-
Oh, okay.
Okay

... we were promised a psychic tonight.

So we went to, um, what we saw on Google Maps says Psychic of Manhattan, but later when we got her card, she was called Psychic of Empire State Building dot com.

I am plugging her, I guess officially now that I've given her website, because I do believe that Psychic of Empire State Building dot com has the gift of sight.
[laughs]

I know that I just said tarot g- like, this, it's basically like she's flipping aces of spades, and yet she has the gift of sight.

My-
Just when you thought you were out, she pulled you back in.

Exactly.

Like, my assumption is that she does the cards 'cause she knows we like the cards, but she simply sees the future.
Sure.

And when we were reading all of her Google reviews, which is how we chose her-
Yeah

... um, they all were like, "She's so accurate." And I was kinda, as a not, well, as she told me herself, a not very spiritual person.

[laughs]
She told you that you're not a spiritual person.

She was like, "You're great.

You're a pos- you're s- yeah, you're clearly so, like, you're a really positive person.

You're a go-getter.

You're clearly very accomplished in a l- in life.

You're about to be so successful." Nora, huge news.

I believe we are about to be so successful-
Yes

... per Val.
Yes.
Yes.

Um, she was like-
Last three days of retrograde

... she was like, "I do have to tell you something," and then she basically was like, "You're spiritually bankrupt.

But you can-"
[laughs]

"But you can build that back up." She was like, "It's just been a hard year.

Y- your spiritual meters are low.

You just gotta build that back up."
You gotta build it back up.
Okay, we can work on that.

So everyone kept being like, all the reviews were like, "She's so accurate," and I was kind of like, well, I don't wanna go so- to someone to accurately tell me things about myself.

I know accurate things about myself.

And yet, the situation is when someone-
But isn't she telling you the future?

Well, first she's telling you the present, and when someone explains your present to you in, like, honestly pretty extreme detail-
Yeah

... and then, and, like, I was there with, y- doing it with two other friends who did individual sessions, so you could be thinking like, "Okay, but is she just really good at saying vague stuff that makes you feel really seen?" No, she told each of us super different stuff about ourselves that was super central to us, so then you're like, "Wow, this woman is really accurate." So then when she tells you the future, you're like, "Yeah, I probably am-"
Listen

... "about to create general w- generational wealth for my family." [laughs]
Better listen.
Wow.

Um, so that was a little treat for me.

Um.
Can I tell you that I experienced the reveal that this took place, I actually don't know the answer to this, in, near the Empire State Building?

Very near the Empire State Building, as listed on the website.
I can only imagine that that reveal felt as it did for you when you rounded the corner in the exhibit and got to the point where-

Where did you think it may have happened?
I don't really know, but the [laughs] Empire State B- like, I didn't have a concept of where this was taking place.

You consider the Empire State Building to be morally bankrupt [laughs] spiritually.
But you, but you shared with me, I saw a psychic this weekend.

Yeah.
And you shared the link.
And when I clicked on the link and it goes Psychic of Empire State Building.
[laughs]

Well, but on Google Maps I believe she's billed as Em- as Psychic of Manhattan, which so then I briefly was like, did we get duped?
[laughs]

Did, like, a psychic come out in the hallway and was like, "I'm right here."
But it's like-

But really we needed to go, like, downtown a little further.
It's a prank that those two people who do the social media for the Empire State Building are running.

It's a prank I'm taking because-
So they get people through the door

...

this is the start of me being less spiritually bankrupt-
[laughs]

... with seeing this psychic who told me that I am.
I just think, no, I can only imagine that she's doing your reading and she has the cards out just for show.
Um, but you're on the top of the Empire State Building.

Yeah, that's right.
Like those people who got engaged up there.
[laughs]

That is where I was, yeah.
That was the psychic.

It was, uh, very windy, really hard to keep those tarot cards in line.
You unfurl a banner that says love wins.
[laughs]

I would never do that.

I'm not spiritual.

[laughs] We're going.
We're bringing it up.

We're moving up.

If anybody has any tips on how to fill my spiritual coffers a little more in ways that I will do, please, please let me know.

I'm open to Reiki.
Reiki.Okay, I believe that you also had another experience that I would assume to have been spiritual.

I did see Meg Stalter in Oh, Mary! on Broadway, which was spiritual for two reasons.

One, because the play is so good.

She was so good in it, like a really excellent Mary, um, even with bronchitis, which she publicly and dramatically has.

So it was great just in the way of, like, seeing a great show and having a great time, but also it happened amidst this Reddit drama [laughs].
Which is one of my favorite things for having some-

Niche Broadway drama is incredible
... something to happen in the midst of.
[laughs]

It was happening on the Broadway subreddit that people were j'accusing her of skipping out on, um, certain perform- uh, she's missed a few performances-
Yeah

... because she has been ill-
Yeah

... for multiple days in a row.
With bronchitis.

Which famously is sometimes how illness works.

And people were saying that at least one of those shows she missed, um, because she was at the Comedy Cellar.
[laughs]

And actually, I went to the Comedy Cellar yesterday.

I'm moving in these circles.

[laughs]
Jody, your New York era, like, it's so good.

It's, I gotta-
It promises and it's so good

...

I gotta settle down.

I gotta sit down.

Um-
No, never settle.

She, so, like, she, and then she, uh, publicly addressed it on her Instagram and was like, uh, that she was sad to miss the show, and then she said, "There's a whole thread on Reddit I guess about how people think I was at the Comedy Cellar, and I'd just like to go on record saying I was not at the Comedy Cellar."
At the end, she posts, like, a few of the Reddit posts.

Yeah.
And it devolves-

A carousel
... into this conversation about who the type of comedian who does the Comedy Cellar [laughs] is.

Yeah.
And it's just the most r/Broadway thing in the entire world, where all of a sudden they're, they're having this argument about, like, is the Comedy Cellar a space that caters to a particular genre of comedian, and if so, is Meg Stalter someone who belongs in that genre?

Right.
Or is Meg Stalter perhaps as, you know, like, is, d- is her sensibility a little bit too left of center somehow for the Comedy Cellar? Is the Comedy Cellar for basic...
Like, it's just [laughs] amazing.

Well, there's this thing that happens on Reddit where you're like, you're in your comfort zone.

You're in your expert space.

You're on backslash Broadway, and then suddenly people start talking about the Comedy Cellar, and you're like, "I'm still acting like an expert.

I'm still an expert.

I know what kind of comedians are at the Comedy Cellar." [laughs] And apparently it's Meg Stalter, but the, the accusation was that she was seeing a show at the Co- like-
Right, yeah, not that she was performing.

But then it was, it was getting all mex- mixed up, and I would like to say that she was at the Saturday showing of Oh, Mary! hoarse as hell.

I mean, she really, she was really pushing through it, and I thought it added something to the space.
So the other post that she put on Instagram was of her either at, at that show, I think, um, and she's wearing a tank top, and around her neck is, um, like a piece of paper with a sign, and it says, "The princess is on vocal rest," but she was never at the Comedy Cellar.
[laughs]

She was not at the Comedy Cellar.

If you heard she was at the Comedy Cellar, it was a lie.
It was a lie.

A Reddit lie.
[laughs] But then the best part to me is that one of the top comments, at least that I see, um, is someone asking a question that I too had when I regarded the sign, which is, "No shade.
How did the sign turn out like that?"

[laughs]
Because this is some crazy handwriting.
[laughs]

It honestly looks like the Es are written backwards like she's four.
Like, does her pen have bronchitis?

It does, because she's using different fonts, which is, like, not really something I've ever seen a, a, one individual person do.
It's really funny.

I mean, that's pretty Meg Stalter-esque, though, and I, I've received, I would say, a good bit of private support in my DMs for, from people who also feel that others are doing too much with hair clips, including myself, actually.

It's not others.

I'm doing too much with hair clips.

She is wearing a ponytail holder in this situation that's doing normally what doing too much with a hair clip does.
Okay, now I feel like I understand this better.
I, as you say that, I was, like, itching to tell you that I, I am considering investing in a fifth hair clip.
[laughs]

Were you inspired by the worth the money introspective question this week?
I, I, I want navy blue.

Nora, you're out of control.

You're too dangerous.

A navy, a fifth hair c- clip in a crazy color?
A fifth hair clip.

A navy blue?
But one of them is, one of them is a vacation hair clip, so it only half counts.

We're gonna have to talk about this offline.

You're spiritually bankrupt.
Okay, we will-

A fifth hair clip?
We'll, we'll table that and laundry.

Nora, you're out of control.

Um, yeah.
Get well soon to, to Meg Stalter.

[laughs] Yeah.
Uh, very excited for the Stalter administration to have begun.

Get well soon and get out of the Comedy Cellar, 'cause I heard you were there.
That's what I heard.

No. [laughs] That's it.

Those are my weekend updates.

I saw Kaia Gerber at Oh, Mary! [laughs]
You're having fun.

That's it.

Now that's it.
Okay, cool.
[laughs] But not at the Comedy Cellar.

But not at the Comedy Cellar.

Um, Nora, I slightly feel that it is our civic duty to do some, uh, poop parasite updates.

I was calling this poop parasite still pooping.

[laughs] Um, you said, "I think we've, I think we've done it all.

I think we've run the gamut.

No more updates."
[laughs] But you, you've argued in the name of journalism that we need to tell the people what's going on.

Well, I don't think it could be understated that I am staying in a communist apartment right now.
Yep.

And so it is possible that that is playing into my ultimate feeling about the current cyclospora updates, that it's ultimately kind of a Taco Bell psyop.

Um, that, you know, big lettuce is trying to blame everything on Taco Bell when, w- like, what's, what's left of our government has traced this back to this Taylor Farms- The iceberg lettuce coming out of Taylor Farms' Mexican production
Probably.
Probably.

It str- they strongly...

The identifying mechanisms have strongly led-
Yes

... back to that.
And then they announced that they had a positive test, and then the test was a false positive, but that doesn't mean that all of the other pieces of the puzzle and information that was pointing them towards Taylor Farms lettuce-

It was also a false positive of lettuce that was not officially in part of Taylor Farms' voluntary recall.
Right.

Um, what I ultimately found funniest about this is that Taylor Farms [laughs] came out pretty indignantly with a, with a PR statement and said, "Today, FDA apologized to us."
[laughs] They said sorry.

They said they were so sorry, and that if we were at the Comedy Cellar, no we weren't.

[laughs] Taylor Farms was not at the Comedy Cellar.
But then the FDA said that they didn't apologize.

[laughs]
That they merely updated Taylor Farms to reflect the latest information that that particular bit of lettuce had been a false positive, but that they were still a suspect.

Right.

[laughs] And that-
And they didn't say sorry.
[laughs]

The work that the FDA does in terms of tracing still points to where it points despite that false positive, and they didn't say sorry, and they're not sorry.
Wait, so why do you think this is a Taco Bell psyop?

Oh, because le- like, all of the leading, um, headlines coming out of this once the tracing starts going back to Taylor Farms are like, okay, the headline, The Washington Post headline that came out, uh, as usual, minutes after we finished-
Yeah

... recording was, "Exclusive: Investigators have linked shredded iceberg lettuce supplied to Taco Bell restaurants by Taylor Farms as a potential source of contamination in the outbreak of parasitic illness that has sickened thousands in the United States." Um, that's true.
Yeah.

That's not untrue.

But Taylor Farms provides so much lettuce to-
So, so you're-

...

so many places
... you are taking issue with the centering of Taco Bell in-

I think that somebody's looking for a scapegoat, and Taco Bell, as a famous giver of diarrhea-
[laughs] Someone thinks too many people have been livin' mas

... is a pretty easy scapegoat.

And I'm trying to viva mas, and maybe right now is the best time to eat Taco Bell.
[laughs] Well, they say the safest time to fly was September 12th, 2001.

Exactly.

And, um, Taylor Farms goes to Walmart, it goes to Trader Joe's.

Don't eat bagged-
Don't eat bagged lettuce

... iceberg lettuce right now.
Don't eat bagged iceberg lettuce.

And don't eat chop- don't eat bagged chopped up lettuce.

Chop your own lettuce.

Grow your own romaine.

Invest in Nora's-
Yes

... grilled Caesar campaign.
Come to my house.

If you have any extra money.
158 degrees.

I'm just keeping my eye on it.

Um-
It's not coming from a bag.

The, and the knobby berries are fine.
Yes.
[laughs]

I think to me-
Unfortunately

... that was a huge relief
...
the berries were marked safe, um, within hours of, uh, my in-laws receiving in the mail some device they ordered that is supposed to clean knobby berries very well.

They did it as a resu- they got that device as a result of cyclospora?
Yeah.

Wow.
Yeah.

What's the device?
It's w- I haven't fully investigated it.
It's smaller than you would think.

Well, berries are pretty small.
Yeah, but I d- I...
Is it one berry at a time? [laughs]

If you're as careful as I, as y- if you're as careful as me and your in-laws are, Nora, yes.

We're taking them one-
Okay, I'll-

... raspberry at a time.
I'll get into it.

I was-
To be honest, I ate raspberries this morning that I just kinda rinsed.
But I, again, I think we're on the lettuce.

I, I...

We're on the lettuce.

Raspberries are so delicate.

I find it very difficult to wanna wash them, and yet I know they're one of the ones I really need to wash.
I love raspberries.

Me too.

Um, n- and that's all just fodder because there's honestly only one thing happening [laughs] in pop culture this week.

It's not the World Cup, although we've got a couple of sporting updates to follow.

But the main update vis-a-vis this podcast in pop culture is that there's another crazy, freaky little animal in town.

There's another raccoon in town, and these two things are overlapping.

A star was born in Seattle.

His name is Jimothy.

Uh, thus named just by, like, the random gal, uh, w- who, thank you for your service, um, filmed him.

But, like, we all permanently call this little guy Jimothy.
Yeah.

That is his name.
Are we sure he's a boy?

No, I'm not sure.
I-

Has someone gotten under the hood?
I'm not sure they have.
We don't know that he...
He could be Jimitha.

That's true.
But he'll be Jimothy today.

He's Jimothy for now.
Gender is a construct.
I hope he understands.

We could go they/them.

Um, Jimothy is a raccoon in Seattle.

I can't believe how much raccoons have become our beat.

Um, who has r- a rare short s- he has short spine syndrome, which is a rare syndrome that affects, anecdotally in my observances, raccoons and dogs.
[laughs]

There are several other do- there are dogs who are known to have this.
Yes.

There's one kind of famous dog.

What is his name?
Oh, I don't know him.

Oh, I als- and I actually am not t- I'm not sure about that gender either.
I think that we're okay with Jimothy because, um, though I do consider this a genderless statement, what he is is just a little guy.

Yeah, he's just a little...

Well, he's just a little freaky guy, and-
Yeah

... we love him.

So he was minding his own business in Seattle, and, uh, Keanna Hall was out, as the S- I believe The Seattle Times put it, um, just roaming around Goodwill.
Goodwill.Sure.

She was just taking a stroll near Goodwill, and she saw what she thought was a cat under a car.

She filmed it for five seconds, and as she did, and it came out from that car and up a set of steps in a very viral video you have probably now seen, she discovered that's not a cat, that's a sort of half raccoon.

And she's like, "Oh, what is that?" Um, and so she put it on her social media, and, uh, yeah, a star was born.
Well, and there was a minute when this story felt like, is this kind of a, a lumpy miniature Bigfoot situation we have on our hands? Like, is this an unidentifiable creature who's roaming the streets of Seattle who we're all interested in, but we don't really know what his deal is? And then, you know, not long after, people start seeing Jimothy around a little bit more.
Um, it turns out that some people had actually seen him as a little bebe, and had footage of this.
And so we understand that he is a raccoon.
He has a raccoon family who's very loving and wonderful towards him.

Which is a relief after Punch, you know?
Yeah.
That was a hard time to get through.

Yeah.

I have mentally abandoned Punch.

I have no idea how he's doing.
Again, spiritually bankrupt.
[laughs]

I-
Punch took a turn.

Uh, Punch, Punch can handle himself.
Unfortunately, there was, like, a, there was-

Punch can handle himself
...
there was a kernel of darkness within Punch that I think everyone t- was trying to figure out.

And this is, this is where I say-
No such with Jimothy

... that we are searching, we are searching and seeking little uplifting moments, little ways to get out of hell.

Not to heaven, just maybe kinda regular.
Just, just, just equilibrium

... just somewhere in the middle.

Um, because I would say anglerfish-like, people have really latched on to, uh, Jimothy and what they represent, um, in terms of just kinda like making it.
[laughs] I read an interview with Madonna recently where she said that she loves anglerfish, and she was like, "Have you heard about this? They live, like, all the way at the bottom of the ocean, and they make their own light.
And like, I so relate to this," and like blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
And all I can think about now is does she know about the gassy anglerfish who died?

Wait, but this also...

Was that in, um, the...

Am I mixing up who said this?
It, well, it's in the sh- uh, Five Star Weekend.

Oh, that's where it happened.

[laughs]
Oh, no. [laughs]

Nora, did you-
Not in Madonna's Interview magazine interview

... did you do a classic I got Jennifer Garner and Madonna mixed up? [laughs]
No. No. It's-

You just knew you knew the anecdote
... could it be possible that she also said that somehow?

I mean, I would like-
I'll look into this

...

I would like a, I would like a fact check because I believe that in Five Star Weekend when she's being kind of maybe when she's being called adorable, she's like, "No, the animal I relate to most is the anglerfish." And then they look up the photo.

Is that...

Oh, boy.
Yeah.

Oh, but maybe it starts to harm his character
...
I think I'm really, I think I'm doing a, I think I'm getting incepted by, um, Peacock original programming.

Well, that happens.
Yeah.

It's one of our best and worst platforms.
Okay [laughs] so that wasn't Madonna I don't think.
[laughs] Do you see Madonna like that? Is that what's happening?

No.
[laughs]

I was like, this is in my head.

I was like, this is a weird way for Mado- donna to self-identify.
Yeah, 'cause she's not exactly, like, lurking under the surface-

Lurking beneath the surface
... making her own light.

Yeah.

She is really out there on the world stage making her light.

But for this little guy, this little, this little Jimothy guy, um, I saw someone-
I'm sorry, now, now where my head is is, like, what else do I assign to Madonna that just simply does not apply?

I am questioning everything you've ever told me.
No, same.
Ab-

But I'm just gonna have to-
And, and believe me, as you should

... [laughs] I'm gonna have to write that down, just be noodling on it.
In my household, we call that misusing your confident voice.

Oh.

That's tough feedback to receive from me sometimes.
[laughs]

It is feedback I give.
Yep.

Um, I, I don't, I don't love...

Ac- that's not true.

I love when you do it to me.

[laughs]
And I believe you immediately.

I'll do it again.

[laughs] Um, th- there is, like, all of the footage of him is very, it feels like found footage.

It's sort of, like, mythical creature-like.

So then just the discovery that actually he's just a raccoon who looks wild and has this short little back half.

He's not even a year old.
I know.

I thought from the way that videos started coming out, that he was kind of like a local Seattle legend.

Like, we have, i- in my area of western North Carolina, we have white squirrels, and they're kind of like little, little legends.
Wow.

And it is always, like, very magical when you see them.
You know that I have a whole thing with a black squirrel, right?

Uh, an enemy?
No.
No, a friend.

I'm sorry.

I'm realizing that I didn't send you a text to let you know that the, um, the pigeon woman from Home Alone passed away, and I did, I wanted to get your takes on that.
[laughs]

'Cause I just wondered if that would inspire any strange feelings in you given your thoughts on pigeons, but what's your deal with this black squirrel?
Um, so when I started living in Connecticut, when we started doing-

Hmm
...
this apartment project, um, I, like, had a bit with my husband about how I was, like, losing my mind in the suburbs and had begun to, like, talk to squirrels.

Mm-hmm.
And there's this little all-black squirrel who, like, hangs out in the same area of the yard, and I named him Pistachio.

Oh, yes.

You have told me about Pistachio.
And now, like, it started as a joke about how I was losing my mind, but now I just feel, like, a deep kinship with this squirrel, and I see him all the time, and I'm always so happy to see him, and I'll pull into the driveway and I'll go, "Ah, my boy."

[laughs] We gotta get you out of Connecticut You're like Disney princess-ing out there in the crazy way.
[laughs]

Like in the, in the way that Amy Adams does when she comes to the real world.
[laughs]

You're talking, you're talking to squirrels.

Um, it turns out that like this guy's fine.

Yes, he has, he's got a little spine.

Um, but with the support of his family, as you noted, um, and a loving community, unlike Punch, everyone is not so lucky, he's doing great.
Well, and like he can, he can scavenge, and he can scurry around, which ultimately is all that a raccoon needs to do.

Um, yeah.

In, in the Seattle Times [laughs] they interviewed a, a professor from Washington State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and I really enjoyed her saying, um, that she, she couldn't diagnose Jimothy based on just, uh, videos of him.

And but she described him as kind of a crazy little thing.
[laughs]

She was able to say that with a certain amount of scholarship.

Um, and then-
Medically speaking [laughs]

... that he's just kind of a crazy little thing, and that he was likely born this year, but that he's very spry and so that's like a good sign for Jimothy's, uh, survival.

Because that he's made it to this age, uh, says that he's good at adapting.

Which is kind of raccoons whole deal.
Yeah.
Is that why they're always coming up for us? Raccoons?

Like we like their resilience?
I don't know.
I just feel like we talk about them.
[laughs] They come up pop culturally a lot.

Well, like the advent of the internet-
Mm-hmm

... and the, like the modern social internet I do feel has been transformative for the place of the raccoon.
Elaborate.
[laughs]

Because I think raccoons historically have been thought of as something akin to a pest.
Yeah.

And I think now all the girlies online are like, "This is one of the cutest animals I've ever seen."
Yeah, because if this little guy had existed, and I'm sure he did, like in the olden times when you couldn't take photos, uh, he would exist by legend of being a little gremlin.

Yeah.
But now because we can take photos and we know that raccoons have those little hands.

[imitates raccoon]
We know that they're cute, and they're fine.

Yeah.
They will steal your trash.
Watch out.

They'll steal, yeah, they'll, they'll steal.
They're still gonna do what they do, but-

But it's also, it's, it's kind of a little mischief.
Yeah, they cohabitate just fine.
We like a little mischief.
Love you, Jimothy.

I guess worth noting is, uh, that the World Cup, mm, concluded this Sunday.
[laughs] I was like, how do we, how do we call this? Finalized?

Yes, they finalized-
The sport's ended.

They finalized the World Cup.
The sport, the World Cup was finalized by Spain, uh, beating Argentina.
I'm gonna let you give the sporting updates.
Any sporting updates.

Um-
Anything you loved from the World Cup.

Look, not a game for the ages.
Mm-hmm.

But exciting nonetheless.

And I had a great time with the World Cup.
Oh, yeah.
It was a good time.
It was a little treat.
It was a big treat.
It was a reprieve from fire, air, and diarrhea lettuce.

Yeah, yeah.
Um, it was very nice to immerse ourself in other cultures, to have so many other cultures be here and mostly be nice to us.
Um, I took two stories from the World Cup finale? What's it called?

[laughs] You can just call it the final.
But the finale is fun.
I like it.

It's a little more fun.
So I think that's fine.

From the World Cup finale, which are one that Lamine Yamal's little brother, Khelam Yamal, is ...

I want him to stay in my life.
Yeah.

I can take or leave the soccer.
Well, you know what I feel they need to, like I, I understand that maybe let's give Messi a day or two to, to heal.
I think he's gonna be fine.
But I do need Messi to dunk that kid in-

[laughs]
... a basin of soapy water.

I need him to...

No, no, the, that little one is three, so he's bigger.

[laughs]
A little.

A little wildly.
But he's still got the cheeks.

He's so cute.

When he was in the, I wanna say audience.

[laughs]
[laughs] He's, yeah, he's in the stands.
He's in the audience.

He's in the stands, um, wearing a Paw Patrol hat that he later switched to a Spain hat.
Spain jersey, Paw Patrol hat.

He's like, Paw Patrol for good luck to have a good time, and then Spain when we're running onto the field, uh, winning over everyone's affection.

That was a really good time for me, which was good because then I was immersed into a very bad time.

Which I just need your expertise on.

I need to understand what's happening with Tom Brady, and there's probably a compilation that we could make of me saying that exact sentence-
Hm.
Right

... several times over the last year.
Right.

But I think that things are reaching a precipice.
Okay.
So yeah, um, would you like to know specifically what is going on with Tom Brady, and Logan Paul, and WWE? Or would you like to know i- in a more 3,000 foot view sense what is going on with Tom Brady? Which is that he is having an extended midlife crisis before our, our eyes, and has been for some time.

I would like the factual, the spiritual, and the psychological diagnosis that we are not, um, at liberty to give.

[laughs]
Okay.
Let's, let's work backwards-

Okay
... then.
So I think like the broad context is that Tom Brady is someone for who the majority of his life had two outlets to give him incred- This is of course just my armchair psychology and, and assumptions.
Um-

But what we are dealing with here, what I, like we're...

As you explain this to me, I am ex- experiencing something when I experience Tom Brady that is such an immense amount of secondhand embarrassment-
Yes

... that like I need to be able to sort of work through it with a comb as you were doing after, at the World Cup-
Cup-Whoa, hold on, hold on, hold on

Okay.

We're starting before that
For most of this man's life, he's had two sources of crystal clear purpose.
One is being part of a team, being, being a central figure on a sports team that had obvious clear goals m- many of which were accomplished by him.
And two, he had, you know, he had a growing family and he had just sort of like this context.
Um, Tom Brady is now retired and divorced, and I think that that's kind of giving him... thrown him for a loop a little bit, and he's trying to figure out what he's supposed to do.
So he, you know, he's broadcasting, which is actually going okay.
He's a minority owner, owner of the Raiders, which is a conflict of interest with his broadcasting job, but that's been allowed to continue, and sure, fine, whatever.
Um, and then beyond that, he's, like, invested in 19 different crypto energy playing card fanatics.

That's right.

I, I walked past a store, a, a flagship store this weekend that had his name stamped on it.
Yes.

Card Vault by Tom Brady.
Oh yeah.
Were you, um, kind of near the Barclays Center?

Um, no.

There are two, in fact, and I was near the one on Lafayette, I guess.

I'm looking.
They're multiplying.
[laughs]

There are multiple.

And I was like, his name is everywhere.

But I understand what you're saying because what you're telling me is often what you hear about a collegiate athlete, someone who has spent-
Yes

...

most of their life working to, uh, their life to that point, to a, a great degree of excellence with a high degree of focus and knowing what they're trying to achieve.

And when that ends, for whatever reason, I think generally someone has a harder time with it if they were hoping for more, they were hoping to go into a professional career and that doesn't work out or for whatever reason, and then they lack focus and then they probably, like, have a lot of girlfriends and cheat on them.

I feel like that's usually when I'm hearing about it.

And they're like, "Oh, former college athlete, cheating on a lot of girls."
Right, right, right, right.

You don't hear that as much for someone who has reached the highest point, like one of the most successful athletes ever, and then now he's having this sort of, like, crisis.
Yeah.
Although you hear it a lot, you hear it a lot with professional athletes too.

Sure.
Um, that post-retirement is just like a weird-

Yeah
... experience for a lot of them because yeah, I mean, you have...
It's the same thing and then add on however many more additional years of doing that professionally, and it's structure and it's purpose and it's like all of those things.
And I genuinely think that like, uh, from what I can observe, it seems like he's had a weird go of that where he just says yes to every opportunity.

Well, and maybe because like he is so big and his star and his talent were so big, he's doing, he's having that weird time that you're describing for professional athletes during retirement in the weirdest, biggest way possible.
Yes.
Yeah.
Well, and he's also like, he's, he entered that space a lot older than most football players-

Yeah
... do because he played for so long famously.
So like part of it, like his references are all weird, like he's not good at Instagram and he's trying to do-

No, he's not
... all of these things.
[laughs] Um, but the thing that's happening right now-

It's extended athlete adolescence.
Yeah.
No, it really is.
He's like a, he-

And I actually am qualified to diagnose that because it's not real, so I can say that.
No, totally.
We can make stuff up.
So the thing that's happening right now is that he has this weird fake beef with Logan Paul that, uh, got attention over the last week.
Uh, and then similarly-

It was Fanatic, Fanatics posted it-
It was Fanatics

... directly on its Twitter.
Yeah.
Uh, and then similarly they-

And Instagram
... were videoed at the World Cup final like flipping each other off.

Nora, please do not undersell it.

They are doing the funniest, like, miming of a fight I have ever seen in my life.
Well, they're literally doing that viral video of those two guys in SoHo flipping each other off.

They are doing that viral video of those two guys just going back and forth, just back, "No, no, no. I'm winning.

I'm winning.

Oh, I'm so mad.

I'm so ugh, ugh, ugh."
En garde, bitch.

[laughs] I'm so mad.

It's so crazy and is like such a dumb thing to be seeing these two grown men or one and a half grown men doing.

It's nuts.
Well, and like Logan Paul's hair and just the way that it looks is never not startling to me.
Like that, there, there's a genre of person who I refuse to commit to memory so I don't really ever know what he's gonna look like before he's in front of my face.

That's a blessing.

That's your brain protecting you.
No, totally.
Totally.
Totally.
Um, but it's, but in, in instances like this where I'm forced to think about him, it's surprising nonetheless.
Uh, so Tom-

Is it the blondness of it?
It's the blondness of it.

It is very, very blonde-
It's the blondness of it

... and very stringy and, uh-
Yeah, it's a little bit the stringiness of it too, but it's-

The styling.

It, a- and it's, it's his brother who has the big beard now.

Is your brain protecting you from that too?
Yeah.

Okay, congrats.

Um, it's the, this video is so silly and this like, got this guy like fake holding them back.

[laughs] And Tom Brady's just going
goingUm, but the reason, like this is all very obviously a stunt.
Uh, TMZ has reported that Brady is in talks with WWE.
Uh, Logan Paul has done things with WWE.

I don't even know what that means.

So like they would fake fight each other and sell it on pay-per-view?
Yeah.

Um, Ari Emanuel, who's involved with WWE, is also a recent minority shareholder in the Raiders.
Yeah.

So they know each other.

I'm sure they knew each other before, but like they are connected.
But it's like, just because you're connected to someone doesn't mean that you, a former champion NFL quarterback, need to do a, a stunt-

No
... with the WWE.

I can't, I, I-
I think he doesn't, he can't, he c- he-

He can't say no
... pretty clearly can't say no, which there's something actually kind of a little bit sad but almost endearing about that to me because like I think he is, I think he's searching for something to like really be his thing.
He tried to make it not telling everybody not to eat eggplant, and that didn't really work-

Yeah
... um, in the way that he wanted to.
I th- I think a lot of the stuff that he's done with, with, uh, pliability and nutrition and sleep, I think it helped him in his career, but it's, he's just never made it.

Well, he's trying to clone a wooly mammoth.
He's trying [laughs] to clone a wooly mammoth.
That's another thing that he's up to.
Again, he can't say no.

I'm trying-
I should pitch Tom Brady the Caesar salad idea.

Nora, you have never had a more receptive audience.

You gotta go to that like baseball card shop or whatever the fuck ever he's selling over on Lafayette.
I know.
I, like exactly-

And pitch him Caesar salad
... exactly what that business is.
Um-

It looked like a Lids.

Like [laughs] it looked, it looked-
It does look like a Lids.

[laughs] It looked like a-

I'm trying to get on board with you because you, what I'm experiencing this thing of sometimes when I try to explain, uh, reality star figures to you and all of the depth of knowledge I have that provides them a, a, a lot of humanity and, um, i- insist that I extend my empathy to them.

And then sometimes you might be like, "Okay, but they're peeing on the floor.

So like what do I do with that?"
[laughs]

You know? And like I'm experiencing that with as I hear you describe Tom Brady, which is like, yes, like he is a man in the, you know, entering like the latter half of his life searching for meaning, like in a sort of voided area where he has not had as much experience, which is basically anything outside of football.

He, I, I find myself latching onto it most where it's sort of like there's something about doing something so, so stunt like.
Yes.

Like so stunty as to do the WWE that suggests-
That's embarrassing

... a lack of ego though.

Like, it does seem like he's better than this.

He is much more famous than this.

He is wealthier than this.

There is no need for him to do this, which then makes me be a little bit like, okay, so like he is just doing it because maybe 'cause he thinks it'll be fun, and I can almost find that endearing.

But there is something so mortifying about what is happening-
I don't think he knows

...

in this video.
I don't think he knows because he's h- he is like the biggest day of his year at this point is probably like the Michael Rubin White Party, right? Like he's, that's who he's, that's where he's hanging out.
He is, you know, this is a organization at this point run by a co-investor in the Raiders with him who you probably think is like really into that.
I don't think that he has the spidey sense, particularly based on the other business ventures, like I don't think that he has the spidey senses for like taking his public image into acc- like I don't think he knows that this is, I don't wanna say beneath him, like it's not that serious, but I don't think he knows that this is kind of like a weird, "Tom Brady, why are you doing this?" thing.

But this does, it pivots him into a different sort of lane, and that lane is Logan Paul, like a, a former like Musical.ly star, you know?
Yeah.

It, it is not, it is like such a different kind of person.

It is a person that we would often consider talentless, [laughs] like that they didn't have anything real firm to do-
Yeah

...

so what they did is kind of like accrue interest and audience and then coast off that for a really long time.

And now Tom Brady is aligning himself with that.

I'm wondering if it's like he only knows famous people, so then-
Yeah

...

when you're in search of a hobby, you can only pick up, uh, famous people's weird side hustle, like the WWE, which I give the WWE credit for like being an avenue of entertainment for sure.

It's not that that is weird itself.

It's weird, Tom Brady, don't fight Logan Paul.
Don't fight Logan Paul.
Yeah.

Don't fight Logan Paul.

I think don't do that.
Don't do that.
Don't, no, it, it, because it seems like something that you do when you have no other options.

Nothing else to do.
And like this is a person who has a lot of options, but I just don't-

Has he bought a yacht yet? Do we think like that's something that could distract him a little? Could he get into yacht shopping?
I don't think he owns a yacht.
I think he's on a yacht quite often.

Maybe-
But I don't think, I don't think that would do it.

I'm trying to think of what some other hobbies are that we could suggest I, we have one at the top of the list, which is grilled Caesar entrepreneur salad.
Caesar salad with me.

[laughs] Which is start, you've gotta come up-
Tom Brady Caesar salad with me.

You gotta come up with a name.

Honestly, Caesar salad with me, not too bad.

[laughs]
[laughs] Caesar salad with me.

And if you have any other hobbies to suggest to Tom Brady to save him from fighting Logan Paul-
Tom, we have to get on this quick

... uh, please, please suggest them here.

I don't think we'll officially make that our introspective question for the week-
[laughs]

...

but we are open.
What would be, like, the other kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel moves that he could make?

[sighs] That's a good question.
It is like dropping an album.
[laughs]

Yeah.

No, that's exactly what I was thinking.

I was like, what do sort of, like, reality star...

He could go on Call Her Daddy.

He could drop an album.

He could, um, accept-
Who's the next Mary?

Okay, well, but-
No, he can't do it.

This is one of the issues with this, with this, like, leading up to the WWE thing.

He's a very bad actor.
Yes.

That's what makes it so mortifying-
Yeah

... is, like, that, that is exactly what it is, is that, like, watching him fumble his way through pretending to fight with Logan Paul so that he can pretend to fight with Logan Paul on a larger stage.

I don't know if he can do Mary.

Maybe, nope, there's no role in that very small play that he could do.

Oh.

Tom Brady, have you considered-
[laughs]
Well, that's the thing is like he need, I, I think that he would be well-served to understand himself as kind of an elder statesman.

Through musical theater.

Exactly.

We know he's willing to work hard, and that is, like, that is the main thing you have to do-
Absolutely

... to, um, come from wherever you came from and fulfill the role of-
Tommy.
[laughs]

[laughs] Tommy Hart on Chicago.

Honestly, I didn't think we'd get there, I would get there.

I think we came up with the best possible solution to his post NFL career.
This is Shark Tank now.
This show has become Shark Tank.

Well, if the sharks aren't listening, they're missing out.

These are, as you said last year-
The sharks don't run this city.
We do.

[laughs] We run this city.

These are billion dollar ideas.

Uh, I can't, and, and thank goodness 'cause I need the dollars, Nora.
Math is not my strong suit.
It wasn't Madonna.
[laughs]

You are, and I know you won't like this, The Rizzler trying to get to 100% in the subway, in the subway takes interview.
[laughs] That's offensive to me.

Unfortunately, you trying to do math in real time is actually-
That's offensive to me

... worse than when The Rizzler does it, to be completely honest.
That's offensive to me and my people.

Good.

I meant it to be offensive.

Um, we've gotten somewhere here.

Uh-
I slap you.
It turns out to be a WWE promo.
[laughs]

We are actually way below doing stunts for the WWE-
Shoot

...

so that would be a step up, um-
Shoot

... for our direction.

[upbeat music] Okay, Nora.

We had a doozy of an introspective question last week.
Mm-hmm.

Which are what are three to five things, I was iffy on the number, you can tell me whatever you want and I'll let you, um, that are worth the money to you? And the girls are living.
Yeah.

The girls came out in droves, and they are living.
Yeah.

I, of course, use girls as a n- non-gendered term because there are plenty of men living too.

Plenty of, plenty of folks living, absolutely living in our DMs.

I'm trying to think of how to approach this because there were, like, some real clear this is what is worth the money.
Will you tell me yours first?

Let me tell you some that overlap with the readers.
Okay.

Like, that overlap with the community.
Okay.

Um, and then I'll tell you, like, my more personalized ones.
Okay.

Uh, the electric bill in the summer.
Yep.

Like, using your air conditioning.

That was big for a lot of people.
By the way, I, this is just news you can use.
Maybe everybody knows this.
This was, um, new to me though.
Uh, I read recently a whole Wirecutter piece about how actually the most energy efficient, both from an environmental impact and cost perspective, uh, way of keeping your home cool in the hot months is to, when you leave the house, to not turn it off but to turn it up Because it actually takes more energy to re-cool your house down than it does if you set it to, like, 77 degrees when you leave-

Yeah
... just to make it okay, and then, and then you can bring it down once you're home.
I just, just, just wanted to share that.

Just a little more, as a news podcast, these things are important [laughs] as the place you're getting your news.

I have heard that.

I also, and this has always stuck with me, and I actually don't know if it's true.

I've always heard that it is m- it conserves more water to run the dishwasher than to do your dishes by hands, like, hand.

Like, sometimes if you're sort of opting into it 'cause you're like, "Well, it's just a few," or whatever.

And that's fine.

Everyone can make their own choices.

[laughs]
Yeah.

We're not beating Amazon, folks.

But-
With the exception of, so we didn't have a dishwasher when I, in my house when I was a kid, and the soapy sponge method.
My, my mother is serious about almost nothing in this world in the way that she is serious about the soapy sponge method.

What's, what are you say- what is that?
You don't, the soapy sponge-

What are you saying?
The soapy sponge method is when you wa- if you have a load of dishes to wash and you get a sponge really soapy, and you, like, with just a little bit of water and soap on the sponge, and then the water is off, and then you are soaping up all of your dishes.
And you are just getting them to a place where then you run the water, yes, but then you are rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse, dry rack-

Ah
... dry rack, dry rack.

Uh-huh.
And it conserves water.

Okay.

That sounds, that sounds right, and she should be serious about that.
Huge feature of my childhood.
[laughs]

You sound only lightly traumatized, and I do wonder where this is pl- where that trauma is playing out within your life of like... 'Cause also something so interesting about, like, a lot of the things that are worth the money that people submitted, uh, clearly comes from trauma.

Like, from, you know, n- having to scrape by on something when they were younger-
Right

... or when they were, you know, in their earlier adulthood, and like, now seeing it as something that just, like, takes a load off.
Yeah.

Another one that I overlap with the readers on, which I would say in terms of quantity and actually intensity, was probably number one with a bullet of what people say is worth the money, is professional movers.
Yes.

Like-
On my list as well

... absolutely if you can, hire the professional movers.

If you can't, but you can move a few things around and hire the professional movers-
Yeah

... make that decision.

And if you cannot completely, it's like something to hope for one day.
Yeah.

Um, to know that it is, that it is really great and worth it.

Another big one, um, that overlaps with me is, like, a Rent the Runway, uh, subscription or a Nuuly subscription.

Someone was really on my page with like, yeah, I know we're all having fun with Nuuly, but Rent the Runway is still superior.

And Rent the Runway is superior for me because o- another thing that's worth the money is basically, like, thrifting on Rent the Runway, like, using that at more or less as, like-
Yeah

... my RealReal, like, buying things secondhand there.

Okay, let me tell you some, some unique ones to me.

Uh, Maldon Salt, New York Times game subscription, uh, Kat Von D lip liner, Anya Hindmarch bags, um, Marcela NYC, uh, sheer, semi-sheer turtlenecks.
[laughs] Yep.

Obviously.

Um-
Oh, Folax stain remover was on my list.

Yes.
The-

Second Folax mention 'cause it's a little expensive.
Folax, sponsor us.

It's a little, i- in the, in the tradition of this question, it's a little more expensive than I'd like it to be, and it's worth it.
Ugh, but how good does it feel when you need it and it does the job?

And it really takes the stain out, and I am never testing it.

It's always like, "Spot test, make sure this won't fuck your shit up." Nope, I'm just doing it.
[laughs]

Um, a good dirty martini with blue cheese olives stuffed in house.
Yep.

Um-
Okay

... and the DU hair products-
Oh

... for me, and live comedy shows.
[laughs] But not where you see Meg Stalter.

Not if you're performing on Broadway that night, they're not worth it then.

But if you're not performing on Broadway, I do find live comedy to be uniquely worth it to me.
Yeah.

Okay-
Yeah

... what are yours?
No, I just, I, like, I, I was expecting you to say theater or performances.
S- I'm, I love that you-

I think that often, so this is a thing for me, and, like, everyone gave really, you know, like, unique answers that we'll get to.

It's this question is so subjective because-
Right

... for me, sometimes concerts and live theater, while are, I believe that they are like...

I love live theater-
Higher price point in general

... and I love live music.

They are higher price points.
Yeah.

And so sometimes I gotta call it, you know?
Yeah, yeah.

And I almost never have to do that.

Like, the price point on comedy is lower-
Yeah

...

even for the biggest ones, and so, like, I'm not having to call it.

I'm just like, "This is gonna be a good time.

This is worth it." I would say I've never gone to a concert or a Broadway [laughs] show that I didn't find to be worth it, but I struggle more with, like, making the payment sometimes.
And you have fewer of those experiences where it's like, "I can't believe that was $15." [laughs]

Yes.

No, yeah, no, that honestly doesn't happen.

[laughs]
Like, there's a-

Sometimes
... um, there's a place on the Lower East Side c- called Sesh Comedy, and look, so it can be hit or miss.

Yeah.
But I've gone to a couple shows there that I really loved, and it's really, it's, like, even, it's much cheaper than the Comedy Cellar.
I think it's, like, $10, and it's also BYOB.

Oh, hell yeah.
So if you bring, like, a nice bottle of wine and a couple cups, it's just, like, it feels free.

Yeah.
It feels like they're paying you.

You're making money.
And you're like, "How is this even-"

For the chuckles
... and, like, let me, let me make it clear that the- these are, these are, um, [smacks lips] you are sitting on a f- a plastic folding chair in a basement on the Lower East Side.
But, like, sometimes that's kind of fun.

I'm already doing that-
[laughs]

... from time to time.
[laughs]

So why not make a little money seeing some comedy in the process?
I think that's a really good point.
It is a really good point.
Okay.
But number one with a bullet to me is a high fill 100% down comforter.
Mm.
People's beds came up a lot.
Oh, a lot.
The girls are sleeping.
The girls are sleeping.
The girls are sleeping well.
They are sleeping quite well.
Um, they are sleeping on some expensive mattresses- That we're gonna get into.
Honestly, they're not even mattresses.
[laughs] It's a cooling system, but we'll get into it.
[laughs] It's a system.
And I, like, I actually do, I really ascribe to the category of, like, you're in your bed every day, and having your bed be exactly the way that you want it, I think that is, like, a really, really...
That's a category that compels me.
As you know, I don't like having to be, um, a victim to my own, uh, human needs.
Um, so I- [laughs] ... s- I can kind of take or leave sleeping, uh, so it's whatever.
But I like to be comfortable.
I think that p- 'cause people often talk about, like, "Oh, I want my bed to feel like a hotel bed, like the most luxurious hotel bed that I've ever been in." And I think often that conversation centers around sheets and, like- Mm-hmm ...
thread count, and great, knock yourselves out.
I am really here to say that the thing that makes me feel that way is sleeping underneath a good quality down comforter that is light as a feather, still warm, but heat regulates properly, and just, like, fluffs up when I shake it so nicely.
Mm.
Um- That does sound nice ... that's a big one for me.
Uh, I did have movers.
The other one that's sort of in that category to me is car to the airport when you have a big bag.
Oh, yeah.
Like- And you know I have a big bag.
Right.
Uh, pretty often.
Right.
It's car to the airport.
It's car to the airport.
It's car to the ai- And, like, you're not...
Mm-mm.
We're...
I, it, this is an expense- Save the money somewhere else ...
but I, I have never regretted it.
Um, topical, you could say, uh, with the cyclist board of it, of it all, but I would say, like, farmers market or CSA produce.
Mm.
Mm-hmm.
Um, like high quality groceries I really feel.
Uh, new bras when your bras are old and worn out.
Okay, you don't have to come at me like that on the podcast, Nora.
[laughs] I don't know why you're trying to [laughs]...
We are gonna fight.
No, because we all- On the WWE- No, no ... we're gonna fight.
This is, some of these are feedback for myself.
It's like- I know.
It's a good, it's a good one.
That's worth the money ... you get to that space where there's like a couple of your bras that you're just not using at all because you're like- Ugh, it's bad ... yeah, it's too, like the, the band has been stretched out.
I don't like how it fits, whatever.
And then you buy a new bra and you're like, "Wow, am I a Victoria's Secret Angel? I love this." [laughs] Am I Karlie Kloss? Am I Karlie Kloss? Yes, you are.
And I told you that at some point I want us to do a sort of like mirror of this question that's like what are five things that are worth the time and effort.
Yes.
And getting rid of the old bras that are just weighing you down, where you're like, "I'm literally never wearing those.
My boobs don't go, my, they don't fit in there anymore," or whatever, it's worth getting rid of.
[laughs] You'll feel so much better.
Yeah, you're wedging them in.
You're moving things around.
[laughs] You feel like something's kind of always trying to like- Nipples akimbo ... escape.
Yeah.
[laughs] Get rid of them.
Um, bowl of warm olives at restaurant, e- even if $11.
[laughs] You do love that.
You do love that.
Bowl of warm olives at restaurant.
[laughs] And maybe I'll split it with you.
No problem.
Thank you.
It just makes me feel so happy.
Someone said, and I'm not gonna be able to find their name right now, their only submission was splitting the bill evenly.
Oh.
And at first I didn't understand, but now I think they mean that, like, even if that means you're paying more.
Yeah.
Of course that is always worth it to do.
And just like not, not using a- Having to- ... like- ... fiddle or fumble ...
the sort of, the line after which you... like where it becomes acceptable in a group to invoke a Splitwise.
Right.
Like having that be a higher threshold of like, oh, we did a little trip together- Mm-hmm ... there's a bunch of stuff, rather than- Dinner ...
I am Venmoing you for half of our $8 Uber.
Okay, but I am like- And it's like- ...
Nora, you did eat most of those olives, so- [laughs] I definitely- Do you wanna take those on you? [laughs] Uh, but you know what? You know what? I will say, like that said, if I want olives, because it's worth the money to me- Oh, she getting olives for the table, folks.
I like, I'll pay for the olives.
I'm so happy to pay for the olives.
I just want the olives.
Of course.
Of course.
And you need them.
Um, getting the little shoulder massage while your nails dry with a mani- mani-pedi.
Mm.
Worth it every time.
Um, all of a sudden, whole spa day took 45 minutes.
Gorgeous.
Uh, New York Magazine subscription.
I don't know if I said that.
My New York Times Games subscription.
Also, my New Yorkers.
Many subscriptions, but that is the one where I'm like- What does it say that no one's saying their New York Times subscription? [laughs] That's not what I, and it's not what I'm saying.
[laughs] Just wanna do the Wordle.
I've got, [laughs] you know, we're saying New York Magazine, we're saying New Yorker, but I'm just trying to get to spelling bee.
Um, and then last one for me is an authentic Noguchi lamp.
Have we yet acquired? Um, honestly, [laughs] the one that I need is currently sold out, so I actually...
This is part of what was going wrong wearing this- You needed ice cream? ...
rainy day ice cream.
I knew it.
I knew this was about you needed ice cream.
So I need, I need to buy a different Noguchi pendant lamp so that it can be installed and then we can swap it out at a later time because it has to go under a medallion, so the pendant needs to be available.
[laughs] These are not real problems.
I, you didn't say it was a problem.
You were just explaining something I've never heard before.
No, honestly, like watch this space for two months from now when I'm selling a Noguchi lamp for 50% off.
[laughs] I'm always watching that space

spaceAbsolutely.

Watch that, watch that termite.
Selling a lightly-

Watch that-
A lightly, a lightly used Akari pendant lamp.

I love.

Um-
But seriously, it's, it's, it's, um, it is, for a piece of design history, it is a relatively accessible price point.
And, um, the interior decorator, David Netto, whose work I really admire, uh, did an Architectural Digest, like, Q&A video and somebody was like, "What are reasonably cost-effective ways to make your space look really, really good?"

Yes.
And one of his answers was like, "Get an, get the biggest Noguchi lamp that your space can handle."

Uh, let's-
And I really, I, I buy it

... we should link that video, um, because I really enjoyed that too.

These are the things.

It's subjective, what's, what's worth it to us.

I, that's gonna be so worth it to you.

I just, I sometimes I look into your eyes and I can see where you are in the process, and so it's also gonna be really exciting for me when it's complete in 17 months-
Yeah

... once we've done the switch out.
Yeah.

Nora, I've never felt more famous than when I went into our, like, responses on Instagram and saw that the very last one that made it in under the line of the 24-hour deadline of asking the question on Instagram, which also please know, um, to all the readers listening, that you can DM us and email us any time at we're obsessed pod at Gmail or on Instagram.

You don't have to wait for the call-out on Instagram.

Um, but you can if you're Sasha, who's on vacation, and got in just under the line to tell us her things that are worth it.

And I do consider Sasha, um, a main taste maker of mine, so I was dying to know.

Hers are Vitamix, Breva- Breville espes- espresso machine, which was a big one.

That if, I feel that if you're on the fence and you're, and you have the money to spend, people are saying-
People are really liking their-

People are saying this
... their Brevilles

... people are saying that's w- worth it.

A good mattress, and a giant 4K TV.

She loves watching TV.
Yeah.

In a, in a, in a, in that way.

And I love that for her.
I love, I, I agree with investing in your TV setup.
I, I have ...
My eyes, like, can't do the giant ones 'cause otherwise, like if I'm too close to a TV-

Yeah
...
I get really sensitive.
I didn't really need to bring that up.

Well, as you can imagine, as I'm staying in a communist apartment, um, the TV-
Small TV

... is not a really big priority.

It is smart.

I was shocked.

And already logged into Peacock.

What do you think he's watching on there?
I mean ...

I mean, a- anyways, the eyes are straining, but we do what we need to do as we neighborhood shop in New York.
This man can contain multitudes.

I wanna do Olivia's, uh, top three because I feel that it answers a question that has been asked publicly on this podcast in Spotify comments.

Uh, from Olivia, ARQ underwear and tanks.

A-R-Q-
Yeah

... underwear and tanks.

This was submitted several times-
Yeah, this came up a lot

... by several different people, and I believe our reader, Marissa [laughs] has been out there really wondering what underwear people are wearing-
Yeah

... and really looking for some recs, and this seems like the one.
Yeah.

Check it out.

Um, pricey but feels like cool girl granny panties and so comfy.

Uh, Olivia also said her garage parking spot in San Francisco, too expensive but worth it not to have to deal with moving the car for street cleaning.

And a, a Range by Kara Duvall membership.

Movement classes online and the only exercise that I keep coming back to for almost six years now.

That's also on my long list.

Reformer Pilates or anything that will make you want to do it.
Yeah.

That's different for everyone.

For me, it's that.
Well, and also, uh, any sort of exercise subscription that you like simply by virtue of a lot of them costing, like, about the same for a month as it takes to go to one class.
[laughs]

Yeah.

It is, it is so outrageous how much they cost.

It's, I find it worth it and painful.

I can experience both things.
I love, um, this is an Amanda Dobbins rec, uh, that I've gotten really into, but the Soto Method app I think is really, really good, and it is, like, i- I think it's 40 or $50 a month, and it's just like if I do that three times-

I have so much trouble exercising at home.

I don't wanna do it.
I historically do too.

It's making you want to?
This has ma- this has, this has been good for me-

Okay
... because often they're sh- like, often a lot of them are pretty short.
So what I'll do is I'll do, like, a 30-minute class, which is actually 28 minutes.

[laughs]
And then I'll be like, "Okay, that wasn't so bad.
I'll do another 15." And then all of a sudden I've done a reformer Pilates or a, a mat Pilates class.

Okay.

That sounds worth it.
Yeah.
Um-

Having a great time.

Thank you, Amanda.

Do you wanna read Samantha's?
Uh, okay.
Samantha said, "Creme de La Mer moisturizing cream.
I'm honestly embarrassed by the price, but nothing makes my face feel better.
Keeping the AC in my home as cold as possible in the summer, like 66." Wow, that is chilly.
Um-

That is chilly.

Her face is covered in cream.
[laughs]

She's freezing.

She needs it.
Uh, my absolute massive TV that I do sometimes watch the pod on.
[laughs] Thank you, Samantha.

W- I wish we were using, I wish we were using this triple digit moisturizer [laughs] in order-
Yeah.

If she's gonna be watching us that big, I wanna tell s- Samantha something, which is that when I Googled the La Mer moisturizing cream, it is available on Sam's for a very low price, a discount price.
Do you think it's real?

Get it while it's hot.

Usually those things at Sam's are real.

It's not like Walmart.
Okay.

But do a little investigating, read the reviews.
Because they don't have the, like-

Like you can get, like-
... secondary sellers.

Yeah, like you can get, like, drunk elephant si- I think it's just like sometimes when things are, like-
It's coming through that Sam's QC process

... they're not lo- they're not giant ones.

[laughs]
Okay.

But they are sometimes discounted.
I mean, I, look, my instant reaction to this is like that is a crazy amount of money to spend on moisturizer.
Um, that said One of the answers that I've seen, not from our reader responses, but just out in the world, that, like, I've seen so many times with people responding to this prompt that it's made me curious, are the Victoria Beckham foundation drops.

Oh, see, okay.

So-
Which I think also might be running into the triple digits.

Many-
Maybe they're, like, $85 or something.
They're a lot of money

...

many of our readers said the Victoria Beckham eyeliner-
Yep

... which I had heard more about the under-eye, I'd heard about the drops, but no one had yet said my pug word, eyeliner.

[laughs]
Oh, I have the eyeliner.

I bought an eyeliner.

Do you like it?
Um, so I do like it.
What I have, I have the black one.

Mm.
So, like, I'm ...
I don't know that I've ever had it on in your presence, because I would wear it, like-

For an evening
... for an evening, yeah.
But if I wanna do anything resembling a smoky eye, I am using the Victoria Beckham, and it's, it's quite good.

Well, when I looked this up, obviously I went straight to purple, and [laughs] might-
They do have good colors

... might just be doing it.

I love a colored eyeliner.

Um, also, what is that, uh, I ...

The one that s- a, a few of our readers said it, and so many people on TikTok said it, and I have found this an interesting exercise in, like, what are the things that, uh, you know, as I believe us, [laughs] I called us last week us normals are using, and what is everyone on TikTok using who's getting a million views? Uh, but there is some overlap with the Da- Danessa Myricks blurring balm powder.

You know about her? She comes with a little spoon.
Yeah, I think maybe I know about this, but it's not canon to me.
I'm, I'm, of course, interested.

People are obsessed with it, and say it is worth it.

It is $39, and I really want to try it to know, but that is a high price point for something that uses a series of words that, like, two years ago were not part of makeup.
[laughs]

Blurring balm powder.
[laughs]

Is that what it is? Blurring balm powder.

How can it be all three? Maybe that's why it's worth it, it's so many things.
Yeah.

It's basically-
It's three in one

... it's three in one.
It's three in one.

And there's a lot of girl math happening in these answers [laughs] for, for what might make something worth it.

Oh, there was a very specific three-in-one one.

We got so many, um, great, great submissions.

Uh, I li- I liked this from Peyton, who gave some Canadian brands.

And listen, I know I've said it before, and sometimes I fall short, but eventually I will get there.

I'm gonna make a list of these.

I'm gonna do some links where they're linkable.

You can't really link, like, my kids, which a lot of people said, or, like, my dogs.

And I-
Yeah

... am very glad that those are all worth the investment, but I can tell you about this blurring powder somewhere.
Yeah.

So I'm gonna have two lists going, the one from when we were, like, what's worth it that's under $50, and what's worth it that's sometimes in a, a truly wild amount of money.

These from Peyton I've gotta look up for the linking process, because they're Canadian brands.

Canadian brands edition.

TNA best ever crew socks.

Herbaland Calm-
That's the, that's the Aritzia-

Mm
... brand, right? Yes.

Naturally-
Yes, it is

... gummies with L-theanine and magnesium, and Lululemon Daydraft wide leg trousers.

Do you think Peyton just thinks these are Canadian brands? [laughs]
Well, Lululemon is Canadian.

It is?
Yeah.

Oh, yeah, it is.

Okay.

So they're just, Peyton's just loyal to these Canadian brands.
Yeah.
It, well, it also [laughs] it's like they are kind of, like, at least with Aritzia and Lululemon, I, I didn't know that Aritzia's Canadian, but it very well may be.

Absolute apologies, Peyton.
But, like, they are, they're, they've gone global.

Yes.

We can get our hands on these crew socks and wide leg trousers.

Um, from Ashley, "I only have one, and it's Manny, who takes care of my yard."
[laughs]

"I used to think, 'Who needs someone to mow their yard?' And then I had kids, a full-time job, and actually want to enjoy my weekends.

Manny does one, in one hour what would take me six hours, and he does it better anyway.

Besides my husband and kids, he is my favorite person.

Worth it."
Worth it.
Worth it.

A, a huge category coming in is, like, third-party sources who help you do something that they are so much better at doing than you are, and that that is their task and job.
Well, and particularly, like, someone to do that thing you hate doing.

Which-
Because I, like, whatever chore it is ...
Like, this isn't me, because I like doing laundry, but, like-

Same
...
I know, I know a couple people who just abhor doing laundry, and sending their laundry out, obviously, like, this is a, this is a more common thing in cities, but, like, if you can take, as long as you're real with yourself and you d- don't actually just hate doing work, and you could apply it to anything, if there is one specific thing that you hate doing that is part of chores and you can outsource that task, I so believe that you should do it.

Yes.

For many, many people, that is, uh, someone who cleans your house.

Uh, Katie said, "My man Marcos cleans my apartment, number one.

Number two, an overpriced Caesar salad and Cristal Blanc at the airport," which I love as kind of, like, a little, a little life le- a little something that gets you, a little bit of wisdom that gets you through the day.

And three, farm fresh eggs.
Yeah, farm fresh eggs, big.

Um, from my friend Beck, who I didn't even know was, you know, like, giving, giving me answers in these call-outs, didn't know she was on the Instagram.

Great to hear from you, Beck.

Also a taste maker.

An electric cargo bike, slow fashion, milk delivery, paying a professional to clean, flora bars and Noka pouches, and buying something anywhere but Amazon, which, you know, that is often a decision you have to make.

Is it worth it?
It is to Beck.

Yeah.
I'm interested in milk delivery.

I bet you are.
Tell me your ways, Beck.

It's worth it.

You gotta have a milk guy.
guy.Uh, can I shout one out from Zosha?

Yes.
Um, oh, God, I don't know how to say this one, uh, the first one, but the Maison Francis Kurkdjian.
I've never known how to say that.

Kurkdjian?
Kurkdjian.
Um, they make th- that perfume that everybody likes in the kind of reddish bottle.

Yes.
Um, but also Vilhelm Parfumerie scents-

Mm.
Uh, which is an amazing-

So cheap
... um, perfume brand, uh, that I think is a collaboration between someone who, like, really did very s- serious perfume school in Switzerland and a cool person from Harlem.
Um, and they do really great work.
My husband wears Morning Chess, and I quite like it.

Well, I'm wondering if Zosha is in marketing, because she said, "I shall keep repurchasing Petite Matin and Dear Polly until I arrive at the pearly gates-
Oh, Dear Polly is so good

... because I love smelling like a Parisian morning or Earl Grey and apples." I didn't know I could smell like those things.
No, Dear Polly is so good.

I didn't know it was an option afforded to me, um, with this, uh, very fancy perfume.
Zosha also said fancy tea.

That's worth it to Zosha.

She also said oysters, which was a pretty popular one.
Yep.

Like, the o- the oysters are worth it to many.
Yep.

I really liked kind of on the other end of the spectrum this from William, who said, "Not a big name brand girly," parentheses, "from a store brand ingredient household." [laughs]
[laughs]

So like, yeah.

What are we going generic on? That's a good question.

Um, but the two absolute must-have name brand n- name brands for me are Jif peanut butter and Duke's mayonnaise.
[laughs]

Hell yeah.

That is worth it.

Duke's is worth it.
Wait, the next line of this is [laughs]

Equivalent of every other peanut butter is wrong.

[laughs] And to be honest, I don't think it should be called mayonnaise if it's not Duke's.

Coming in, coming in fast, um, Emily said, "A Costco membership, a Kindle plus Kindle Unlimited, a big air fryer.

Like, I'm talking big enough to not make things in batches, 'cause I'm not doing all that." And that's when you know it's worth it.
Yep.

A car with a steering wheel warmer-
Ooh

... at newly.

Um, I gotta talk about this bed thing.
Yeah.

'Cause I think that is the single most expensive, uh, like, worth the money that we got from, my notes are saying several, several people, is the Eight Sleep bed cooler slash warmer is the most life-changing thing I ever got for my sleep.

And you know, I don't wanna be a part of, um, doing more consumerism than we need to do.

I'm not gonna get the $3,000 bed cooling system.
Mm-hmm.

But maybe for your-
Unless they wanna give it to us.
[laughs]

Yeah.

And actually maybe they should, 'cause I'm a doubter.

I'm seeing it come through and but you know how I am about sleep.

Who fucking cares? Uh, so these are obviously people who care [laughs] about how they sleep.
What would happen if you just got, like, eight and a half hours of uninterrupted restful sleep for seven nights in a row?

I would be so bored.
You would be the next president of the United States.

Oh, you mean like I'm doing opposite of limitless.

I'm using, like, 1% of my brain.

[laughs]
[laughs] I think it's more than one, and you're doing amazingly well as that is.
I'm just-

That's true
...
I'm just wondering what would happen.

Your brain is protecting you from the Paul brothers, and my brain is protecting me from being too powerful.

What would happen? Bad stuff, Nora.

I'd do bad stuff.

I'm spiritually bankrupt.

[laughs]
[laughs] I know.

Maybe.

We'll, we could see.

Maybe if I get...

So when you, when you get on the Eight Sleep website, you're like, oh, it's a bed.
Yep.

But it's not a bed.

[laughs] It's a hub.

[laughs]
A word I definitely thought applied to beds.

That they interchangeably call a pod.

I think the hub houses the pod.
Yeah.
I'm, I'm seeing pod a lot.

Uh, the hub houses the pod, and it's a mattress cover, a cooling sy- and I know everyone who uses the Eight Sleep system is like, "She's underselling it.

She's ruining it 'cause she hates sleep." But that is what it is.

The pod cools, heats, and tracks your sleep, then adjusts automatically so you don't have to.

It goes on any mattress like a cover.

Each side controls independently for multiple sleepers, or I guess only two.

Two sleepers.

Um, and I don't know what the fuck that pod does.

Probably something with water.
Yeah.
Like, what's in it? Is it chemicals?

It's, um, HSA and FSA eligible.
Wow.
So you could actually, um, reduce the real cost of this, uh, somewhat meaningfully.
It seems like it, from the website, it mostly looks like it's kind of almost as if you had a really thick fitted sheet.

Mm-hmm.
And that's how it goes on.
But then also it seems to imply that it's one of those things that can make your mattress, like, tilt up.

Oh, well, I have to tell you something, Nora, that I've just discovered on the website [laughs] which is enhance your system.

So that's gonna run you an extra 2K.

That's called the-
Okay, but I don't feel-

That's the base
...
I don't think that that's what the girlies are excited about.

N- they might be.
I also-

They-
Those things make me really...
Like, they freak me out.
I don't think a bed should be able to do that.

Well, this says that the base-
It's supposed to be flat

... and this is a bold statement, stops snoring automatically.
[laughs]

Which that would be w- worth it to-
Because it-

...

I believe a lot of girlies.
Yeah.
No, totally.
But so it fold, because it folds-

Because it sits you right up
...
it folds up all the way.

To sit you up so you stop snoring.
It actually just, it takes-

Crunches you into a taco so you stop breathing, and then nobody's snoring.
Yeah.
[laughs]

Um, an adjustable base that gently elevates when snoring is detected, raising your head to ease snor- when snoring is detected.
[laughs]

Now, that is nuts.
That's also like, how does it, I wonder how sensitive it is.
Like, does, can someone get away with a little [snorts]?

Oh.

No, not on Sleep Eight's watch.
Not with Eight Sleep.

Not on the pod's watch.
[laughs] Not, well, the-

The pod, inside the pod is, like, that little guy from Men in Black, and he's just in there controlling stuff, like pulling on levers and making things happen, and you're not getting away with anything on his watch.

You're not snoring.

Don't do it.

Um-
I have a distrust of robots that makes me a little

littleI, I knew that I was gonna learn things from this and, and truly, like, there are so many individual fascinating little submissions that I, I, I, I promise I will...

W- we need a Substack.
But like-

I'll publish the list in full somehow because, like, I'm learning about things.

What is Chantecaille mascara? Chantecaille mascara, um, from one of our Instagram submissions.

I have no idea.

It's $60.

What does it do?
Wow.

It must do something.
It...
Does it-

'Cause it's worth it
... eliminate snoring?

It might automatically eliminate snoring by growing your lashes so that you wake up.

Um, a lot of people said, uh, upgrading your flight in some capacity, so I g- I think that's one where, like, subjectivity really comes into play.

Like, if you have the desire and the means to do so, that could mean just, uh, getting your own seat.

It could mean doing first class.

It could mean business class for a long haul.

Uh, exclusively doing premium economy.

These are all examples I saw.
Yeah.
This is one where, like, I get it, but it's just the examples are either something that is so expensive or something that I don't...
To me, it doesn't make that big of a difference with, with the exception of...
Which is not to say that it's wrong.
It's to each their own.
The one that really resonates with me is, like, uh, uh, paying $30 or whatever to choose a seat that's closer to the front so that you can get off the plane faster I think can often, like, really...
Yeah.

That helps in a c- uh, what I will-
But I'm, I can be kind of a cheap flyer.
I like don't-

I can be kind of a cheap flyer, too.

What I will always pay more for is a direct flight.
Yes.
Oh, God.

I hate having to connect.

Um, so, like, if you can avoid that, 'cause then when you're connecting, then you're having to think about, okay, how do I get to the front of the plane? And you're like, "Well, now I'm paying more.

I'm paying for the seat.

I'm paying...

I checked, like, seven bags." Whatever.
Well, and also you, you, you've at minimum doubled the things that can go wrong.

Um, do you know what people said a lot? Rent- renting, leasing a car.
Interesting.

Leas- like, like, many, many people said that was worth the money for them, leasing a car versus owning, and I don't know if that means that it costs more or less, but they like doing it.
They like doing it.
Okay.

And then I guess, yeah, you get a lot of, a lot of different cars.

Um, the second shot on Instagram said an ex-floor model car.

Hardly any miles, but way cheaper than brand new and just as reliable.
Ooh.

More, I guess more of a hack.
Good tip.
I-

Um, Dyson hair wrap a big...

Okay.

Dyson, Dyson is a brand that inspires in people.
Yes.

Very, like, I am really mad that this is worth it.
Yeah.

It is the Dyson stick vacuum, and it is the Dyson hair wrap, and everyone's like, "Goddammit, it's worth it."
Yeah.
I will say that, and you know what? You can, I've had a, um, I bought a Dyson stick vacuum refurbished.

Oh.
Um, and-

You got a guy?
Uh, I think, I think it might have been, like, via Walmart or something.
But, um, it's lasted me a really long time.
It is, like, here's what I'll say.
I, I think that there are vacuums for much less on the market that do just as good a job, but where the Dyson-

Worthless?
... stands out is, yeah, the ease of usability is like nothing else I've ever...
And so if it's just like this is gonna make me vacuum four times more often because it's just taking something off the wall and go, like, it, that really hits.

A- and that, and that is often where a lot of these, uh, are coming from, is, like, either getting a little excitement or getting a little ease of living or that $3,000 cooling system bed.

[laughs]
[laughs] For the bed.

$5,000 if you wanna automatically stop snoring.

I'm intrigued.

It's what I wanted to learn.

That's what introspective questions are for.

Like, I wanna know what people are doing.

I wanna learn about the subjectivity, and I think that ultimately it all boils down to, like, y- you can hear that this blurring balm powder is magic for 100 people.

If it's not magic for you, it's not magic for you, and I do think that, like, kind of figuring out where you're going to try some interesting things that you've heard about versus-
Yeah

... what's not gonna be for you is, like, an important self thing to be able to do.
Yeah.

Um, what's yours?
Can I acknowledge one more that came up a few times?

Yep.
Um, one person specifically men- mentioned Meredith Dairy, but somebody else just said good cheese.

Mm-hmm.
And good cheese is, in fact, worth the money-

Mm-hmm
...
I'm here to tell you.

Mm-hmm.

It, it, it really is.

Um, there were a lot of, like, a lot of things like that that are sort of, like, lifestyle, like, uh, con- concerts.

Um, someone said, uh, getting VIP at concerts for the bathroom, and that is, that's living.
[laughs]

That's living, and I'm proud of the readers.
Yeah.
[laughs]

So a fascinating exercise.

Um, I, I, I just, I had a great time.
Really good scissors.

That's such a good one.

I'm so glad you said that.
It's so good.

Okay, for me, it's really good scissors and so many of them.
Yeah.
I want-

Always having a pair of scissors when you need a pair of scissors
... always having a pair of scissors.

Oh my gosh, 'cause one of my...

Well, this isn't a worth it item 'cause it's so cheap, but, like, my, as you know, my travel scissors are one of my most prized possessions.
Yeah.

I talk about them constantly.
Yes.

Because I o- I feel so much gratitude every ha- time I have them.
Yes.

I'm like, "I can't believe I'm traveling with scissors."
Ah.

Who raised me? They did an incredible job.
It's so good.

Wow.
It's so good.

Okay.

Great, great, great one to end on.

It's worth it.
Really good.
Really good.

Get the scissors.

Get the scissors.

Um, that was, that was a, a doozy, uh, that came with so many submissions.

I'm really hoping we get the kind of turnout for, for next week's, for the coming question-
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm

... because it is inspired by Jimothy, uh, the star of Seattle.

And we are wondering for next week, what is your best hometown lore or story or gossip or little freaky guy, um, that could have gone viral at the time it was happening or could go viral right now or could still go viral?
Yes.

What, what from your hometown is the lore that's like might end up, might be worthy of a TikTok video series?
Perfect.

I'm dying to know.

Now, don't get me wrong.
Obviously, like, if there are really juicy details here, we wanna know them, but if you're struggling to put it into words, think about, like, what the headline would be.

What's your caption?
Yeah.

What's your caption?
Yeah.

Thank you, Nora.
