20th September 2026 (am) - Jesus in the book - Proverbs

Okay, good morning, good morning.

This is just stage one, if you're new to this, in our going through a book of the Bible.

Stage one, we have our flyby.

And then when I get up here again, we're gonna land and we're gonna look at what we've just flown over in a little bit more detail.

So our flyby here, the book of Proverbs.

Now the book of Proverbs, you open it up in your Bible, it's a pretty unique book.

It contains wisdom, right? wisdom imparted in a concentrated form.

I suppose it's a little bit like orange squash, but this time wisdom squash.

They're in the form of proverbs.

So proverbs are either one-liners or couplets of wisdom.

They show you contrasts or they show you parallels to help you to understand how to live a wise life.

So what is wisdom? Well, we could try to give a long answer, but because this is a fly by, we'll try something like this.

Wisdom is the application of collected knowledge, you know, looking at the world and obtaining knowledge that enables a person to navigate life successfully.

How will you navigate life successfully? What does that look like? Turn to the book of Proverbs.

And this is important because it's possible to know a lot of stuff, but it is another thing entirely to know exactly how best to use that knowledge in day-to-day life.

The difference between being clever and being wise is really, really important.

So being clever is, as I always say this, being clever is knowing that a tomato is a fruit, right? You knew that, didn't you? Because you're clever.

Tomato is a fruit.

Being wise is not putting a tomato in your fruit salad.

Got it? Difference between being clever, having knowledge, and being wise.

So we're all familiar, I guess, with this format of sharing wisdom with each other, proverbs.

So if I were to say to you, a stitch in time saves nine, good.

A bird in the hand...

We're two in a bush, okay, and too many cooks.

We see you know, you're already wise.
