We were talking earlier today and last time, too, that we want more people to run.

You were talking about how there needs to be people.

There might be some new faces, but we've got Ward 3 that's unopposed.

All of

you, except for Ward 2, made it through.

There wasn't even enough during a primary to make a contested primary.

I prefer them all to be contested, whether I agree with all the people running or not.

I don't really have a vote.

I live in Battle Creek, but I think a diversity of thought makes people dial down into what they believe in, and it just makes people a little more hardened, and I think it's better to have competition.

And to that point, when I ran 20 years ago, it was almost a similar situation.

Howard Leschowski was the representative at that time, and his wife was a teacher at the junior high.

I don't know.

She might have been gone by the time you...

She was an English teacher, like an eighth grade English teacher.

Maybe.

But anyway, she had some health issues, so Howard stepped away.

So at that time, I applied for the appointment.

So I went through that whole process.

There were five of us at that time.

And one of the questions in the interview was, I mean, it was like a gauntlet.

You sat in the middle of this room and all the council was around you and asking you the questions, but not intimidating.

It was very comfortable, kind of like this.

But the mayor chose another person, but one of the questions was, if you do not get picked, will you run? and uh fortunately all five of us ran so that time i ran the five got voted down to two and then subsequently i ended up winning the the general election yeah and i served almost two full terms um june june 9th was my last day of my first day at with the city so about what five months Um, then Corey Granquist was appointed to take my place.

Oh, gotcha.

And he, it was already past the filing time for the primary.
