The ZONE Podcast: Nerdy News and Reviews

The Lanterns fandom is split for a reason, and I get both sides, but I’m planting my flag: this season is a ride. We’re talking HBO Max’s Lanterns Season 1 from the opening oath to the final rating…
The series follows experienced Lantern Hal Jordan and new recruit John Stewart as they investigate a murder in Rushville, Nebraska, which Hal believes is an extraterrestrial incident and leads them to darker mysteries and reckonings.
Years ago, Hal Jordan is chosen as the successor of the Green Lantern Abin Sur after he dies.
In 2016, Hal and John Stewart have a mentor-mentee relationship and travel to Rushville after John receives a cryptic message from a holographic projection of Hal's younger consciousness, or we'll call him the Hologram for time being, within his power ring.
John helps Sheriff Kari Kane capture a suspect involved in a mass shooting, but Kari forbids Hal from joining the investigation, believing the case has no extraterrestrial connection.
In return, he agrees to meet Kari's father-in-law, William, who arranges for Hal to interrogate the suspect, Waylon Sanders.
Sanders detonates his body, but Hal uses the last of the ring's power to contain the damage.
It's like a superhero buddy cop series, except the mentor and the, and the mentee aren't exactly friendly with each other.
Uh, there is also some mystery going on where, you know, in the very first episode, we're trying to figure out, okay, who killed Hal? So, yeah, it works like a buddy cop series, like a mystery, but it's also like an action superhero show.
I knew about that part, and I know about John Stewart being a Marine before becoming a Lantern.
The exposition feels natural between the TV broadcast and Hal telling John how he got his ring in the bar.
Also kind of crazy that John banged a married woman in the first episode and first encounter.
