Is the Rapture in the Bible?

Well guys, the word rapture seems to, uh, be like fingernails on chalkboard for some people.

[laughs] "Hey, that word's not even in the Bible."

Mm-hmm.

How do you respond?

Yeah.

That's a great question.

Well, the English word is not in the- the- the original language.

In fact, no English words are in the original languages [laughs] there.

That's right.

True to that.

Um, the word rapture is like, uh, words like Trinity, missions, Christmas, Easter, Great Commission.

They're nowhere found in the Bible.

In fact, the word Bible's not in the Bible.

Mm-hmm.

Um-

Only on the cover.

[laughs]

That's right, only on the cover.

That's right.

Uh, but we get our word rapture is, uh, really a transliteration from a Latin word, uh, translated by Jerome in the fourth century, where he took the, uh, Greek word harpazo, oh, in 1 Thess 4:17, and he translated that into Latin, into, uh, rapiare, which the noun form is rapturo.

And so we just translate that.

And it really, a- again, it doesn't matter what we call the rapture, as long as we find out is it taught in the Bible.

Like the Trinity.

We don't have to call it the Trinity, but it's in the Bible, so.

Yeah.
