The boys are back with yet another meaty, August mostly preseason pawd with the following Houston Cougar topics to talk about: - The late additions of Myles Rowser and (return of) Stephon Johnson Jr…
Before we get to the topics I mentioned at the beginning here, the Big 12 preview, volleyball season preview, a little soccer as well, we did have some pretty timely Cougar football related news that we'll, uh, we'll say a happy prayer did not break a day after we recorded our show.
[laughs]
Uh, broke, uh, a couple days here before we recorded on Tuesday night.
Uh, that would be a couple of new additions, or in one case, a new old addition to the 2026 Cougar football roster.
A- as you'd expect from the time and recent news, uh, both of these roster additions are guys who started their college careers in the year 2022, and under the old system would've exhausted their college eligibility after last season.
But thanks to a myriad of different, uh, sometimes conflicting, uh, court rulings, have been grandfathered into the new five and five college eligibility system, or at least they are as of August 25th.
And again, it is always important to at least somewhat date what you're doing a- as, as a point in time, you know, in case, uh, things change.
And I don't, I don't think there's anything that we're gonna talk about here tonight that is more at risk of potentially being quite different a week from now than this.
Uh, we'll start with the newer of the two guys, safety Miles Rouzer, who played the past two seasons at Arizona State, two seasons ago on what was the 2024 Big 12 champions.
He led the Arizona State defense with 98 total tackles, earned honorable mention, All-Big 12 honors, and in the most recent season, uh, earned 13 All-Big 12 honors where he finished with 64 total tackles.
Also was previously a starter and All-Conference selection for New Mexico State, was part of that 10-win NMSU team that I, I believe that was the most wins in over 60 years in that program.
The familiar face out of this new duo is receiver Stefan Johnson Jr.
Been part of the Cougar program the past three seasons.
You probably remember him if you're a Cougar fan listening to this show.
His most recent season got off to a bit of a slow start, but it really felt like he was starting to find his feet.
He had the longest Cougar touchdown of last season.
We caught a 74-yard bomb for a touchdown against Rice.
Caught a touchdown in that comeback win over Oregon State.
Was averaging just over 21 yards per catch when he went down with a season-ending Lisfranc injury in his foot, uh, in the fifth game he played last season.
Was ultimately denied a medical red shirt by the NCAA.
A- and like Rouzer, he joins a veteran position group, but one that he only makes stronger with his presence.
Talked about adding these two guys, Bobby.
Give me your thoughts on these two later fall camp additions.
