Dan Chung: Rescuing North Korean Refugees

Yeah, the mission of Crossing Borders is to show the compassion of Christ to North Koreans and their children.

Since 2003, that's been our goal just to help North Koreans in very precarious situations.

It's a very mysterious place and a very dark place.

We here in the Central Virginia area, we're familiar with North Korea a few years ago in a horrible way with the Otto Warmbier situation, which you touch on in your book.

But that's what a lot of people learned about North Korea.

Maybe just a little bit about Otto Warmbier and what happened to him.

And then I want to get into what's happening in North Korea generally.

Yeah.

Oh, man.

It was such a tragic situation.

Yeah.

He was a student who was very curious about the world.

He's from Ohio and he got a ticket to North Korea of all places.

I don't know why a college student would be curious, but good for him.

And there are these guided tours that you could take in North Korea.

A minder is with you most of the time.

And I believe he, at least the accusation from North Korea was that he saw a propaganda poster on the wall and wanted to bring it back home to his friends.

And so doing the North Korean government accused him of stealing and they took him to a prison system.

North Korea's prison system is absolutely brutal.

And that's well documented.

He was not released for several months.

And when he finally came back, he was basically on life support.

For some reason, his teeth were rearranged.

He had broken appendages or his fingers and toes.

And he died shortly after he came back.
