TRIP US: The Golden Age of Corruption

So, so I wanna talk about three things with you in the first half, if you don't mind.

I wanna talk about tariffs.

Yep.

What does the Trump presidency mean to the rule of law? We've uncovered some corruption already in the transition team.

And then let's, uh, talk about the future of democracy, not only here in the United States, but democracies under assault around the world, and what does that mean? But I wanna, I wanna go with tariffs, because you were in the administration, the Blair administration, and you had to deal with tariffs on both sides, imposing them on goods coming into Britain, or at least negotiating that with the EU, and then dealing with whatever was happening with the US.

And so what are your thoughts generally on tariffs, and what do you think of Trump's proclamation last night on Truth Social and X, where he's saying he's gonna have anywhere from 30 to 200% tariffs, and he's saying this is to prevent the arrival of drugs and illegal immigrants into the country?

I mean, that is, that is quite a link to make.

Do you remember when we were together in, in New York when you were calling the election wrong?

Was I the only one calling the election wrong?

I do admit that, but-

Okay.

I said to you, when Trump talks about tariffs, does he understand what he's talking about? Because he was saying at that time that if he puts tariffs on, let's say, goods coming in from China, that that was going to be cost paid By the Chinese.

A bit like with his wall and the Mexicans, you know-

... don't worry, America.

And now that is obviously not true.
