!The Republican Professor The post…
Lucas J. MatherHostSitting in the office is Jim Sharon and Ruth Cox, and we thought maybe we would take this opportunity to bring you up to date a little bit on the corporate picture and also about some of the things we see happening toward the convention this year at Tamron.
To begin with, Jim, would you fill us in on what you see happening in the corporate picture, please?
I think probably a couple things that would be, I think, appropriate at this time is to review the fact that the position where the company is going is one of something that we can look at, I think, with great optimism.
Some of the forward thrust that we have is reflected that year-to-date, in the six months of this current fiscal year, we've opened ten restaurants, and eight of those were franchise associates and two company-affiliated restaurants.
We have presently eight restaurants under construction, and we feel that we'll probably open another possibly 10 in the remaining six months, which means that this year we'll open 20 new Mr. Steak restaurants.
So that is some real forward progress for us that will increase the strength of all of our partners out there in the Mr. Steak
operation.
Jim, I understand that you're doing something rather phenomenal this year in that you are doubling the the international expansion this year is that correct
true and of course when you go from one to two not too hard to double that 100 growth yes the continuing assistance to our associates is going to be reflected in the training films that we're preparing and the training material and that includes as i just indicated training film And also the training manual that has been prepared and I understand is in very high demand from the products distribution division who is supplying these to the associates who are requesting them.
This is in restaurant training? Yes, it is.
It will include waitress training, give tips for busboys, wear washer, and the entire operation of your restaurant.
Interestingly, that as we find the progress that we see that the company is achieving, and I thought maybe Mr. Mather could comment on the contribution that we find is coming from a very active and highly regarded board of directors.
Yes, Jim, I hadn't thought of it, but I can see that perhaps our associates would be interested in the makeup of our board of directors and some of the philosophy behind it.
As probably everybody realizes today, it's extremely difficult to find qualified people who are willing to serve on a board of directors, basically because of the liabilities of directorships today.
It certainly is not because of the pay any of them receive for coming aboard because most of them are highly successful people and the dollars are not making that much difference to them.
However, I would have to say that in each case they've been committed to prayer and how we've developed the type of people that are on our board of directors today I believe is a direct result of the prayer.
We have an authorized number of not less than three nor more than 11.
We're presently under our authorized number.
The number of meetings we have a year is about an average of six at the present time.
It used to be, until just recent years, we used to meet 12 times a year.
And a little bit about the board philosophy.
We believe and moved into this position a few years ago when we realized that we were actually just duplicating meetings as far as having so many of our own people as directors.
And we moved into an outside board of directors where The only two that are officers of our company are Jim Sharon and myself on the board of directors.
Bob Height sits in as the secretary of the board who, as far as the law is concerned, makes certain that our minutes are kept correctly and that we are operating according to the law.
All the others are outside directors.
