We're back after an extended summer and we're too humble to say we're back better than ever, but we're definitely raring to go and we bring some sharp analysis to our first episode of the season (and…

Dan, there is an old saying that goes something like, "No press is bad press." And so here we are with the Ontario Hockey League getting a whole heck of a lot of press for, I don't know necessarily the r- right reasons, but no press is bad press.

And we're gonna go back here because this is our first episode, but I think it ties into and probably will bring together or bring out some themes that we'll be talking about throughout this season and beyond on this OHL podcast.

Like, don't bother picking me if you are not the Sudbury Wolves, 'cause I'm not going to go to your team." Brampton took him anyway, and then even though he had made it clear that the only team he would report to is the Sudbury Wolves, the Sudbury Wolves still decided they would send 15 draft picks back to the Brampton Steelheads to get Tanner Adams.

Like, I, I don't know how a deal like that works when I think that the Wolves should have had leverage.

It's like, "Hey, James Richmond in Brampton, you only got one place to send him, so, uh, you know, we're gonna hold out for our price." It seems like James Richmond got his price and then some.

But a, a trade this wild, some people have said can only happen in the Ontario Hockey League.

Okay, so the Brampton Steelheads get 15 picks from the Sudbury Wolves, and they get two first round picks next year in 2027 as compensation picks.

Dan, those picks are four second rounders, three third rounders, two fourth rounders, three fifth rounders, two sixth rounders, and a 10th rounder beginning in the next draft, 2027, running through 2030, because teams can only trade four years out, four drafts out.

And then was the negotiation, "No, no, guys, we're not doing it unless we get that 10th thrown in there, too.

Like, it's go- [laughs] we gotta have that one, too." But, um, there's a couple things that stuck, stuck out to me on this one, Mike.

It's so, Tanner Adams has a special talent, and hold nothing against him and the family for wanting him playing a little closer to home at 16 and all these things.

But yeah, two things that, one, you, you asked about the leverage, you know, Sudbury being the only team he'd report to this year, but James Richmond very much did have leverage in that he could have refused and, uh, and Sudbury would've lost this year.
