Sarnia

Our systems are so intertwined.

And, you know, the oil that comes into the Sarnia refinery in southern Ontario that supplies all of the greater Toronto region, which is essentially most of the population of Canada, it all comes through Line 5.

And for those who don't know what we're talking about, Line 5, this is crude that comes out of Alberta.

It goes into the US, goes through Michigan.

It goes under with the Great Lakes at a very narrow point, which has always been a contentious issue because if there's a spill but the pipeline is buried and it's been there for 50 years and has worked fine but then it comes back up from that main US pipeline back into southern Ontario to the Sarnia refinery and then on up to the refineries here in in Montreal and all of the refined products that we use you know if you can imagine Toronto the Greater Toronto region of Montreal running out of all gasoline and diesel in three days.

That's what would happen if we stopped exporting oil to the U.S. It's just an absolute non-starter.

So threatening it just seems utterly pointless.

But PADS 3 and four and two aren't they four and two are the ones in the midwest which are supplied by the canadians and pad three is the gulf i think and i apologize if i get the numbers but they don't really have any other option where they get their oil from um so if we did stop exporting oil i think the americans would notice it very quickly and not be very happy about it and things would change um and obviously one of the first things would happen is that you know the products would no longer or would no longer get into ontario and quebec so you know it it To my mind, that's the advantage of this very deeply intertwined, unguarded border is that we do depend on each other and we have to play nicely.

And you'd be amazed at the deals that come across my desk.

I mean, you know, anything from a waterfront property in Pender Island to apartment buildings in Sarnia, Ontario, Edmonton, Phoenix.

Downtown Vancouver, west side Vancouver, like there are deals everywhere.

And this type of a market gets me so excited when the number one biggest win I've made on an investment is the house I bought on the west side of Vancouver in 1994.

Can I tell a funny story? Okay.

I think it's Enbridge.

They have the gas to one of my properties in Sarnia, Ontario.

So they're hassling me.

If there were a certain confidence among the sailors who boarded her that season, it would have been understandable, because the Equinox had survived problems that had destroyed plenty of other ships.

During 1875, she was chartered for service connected with the Grand Trunk Railway, and operated on the route between Chicago and Sarnia.

Salt was one of the enormous quantities of freight moving across the lakes, and on the voyage that would make the equinox famous, more than 6,700 barrels of it were packed inside the vessel.

So the kind of rounding out the five there, we think that Northern Corridor, this is kind of a recently announced pipeline that runs east.

So from the oil sands region in Northern Alberta down towards Sarnia, which is kind of the main refining hub in Ontario, Quebec We think that this line was largely proposed as a little bit of a, you know, political posturing to kind of, you know, either, you know, work the line with the U.S. government heading south or, you know, help progress the line heading west with the federal and provincial governments.

We kind of don't underrate volumes to that line at this time.

You know, we think it's pretty unlikely, you know, so unlikely we forgot to mention it.
