Paul's
And we'll see, we'll begin by referencing that the church in Corinth had a lot of questions
that they were asking.
He is responding to the questions that the people in Corinth were asking He had started this church in Corinth, and they're responding to the first letter that he had written that is lost.
Even though this is called 1 Corinthians, this is actually the second letter, and he's responding to some questions that they have.
And as we talked last week and in the previous weeks, there were a lot of divisions in the church in Corinth.
There was still some pagan worship going on, even people having sex with harlots in the name of trying to get closer to God, which is certainly not biblical, and Paul was correcting them on that.
which reminds us of a lot of our culture in just about all of our major cities around the United States.
And one thing that he was really pointing out that we got into last week was, as Christians, we are called to live our lives differently than others.
We talked about lawsuits last week, and we had a great discussion on that, but how, because we have the Holy Spirit now, we are called to live our lives different than what we see in the culture.
And so the church in Corinth was asking Paul also now about marriage, and we're going to see he's going to address several topics.
One thing that he is going to address, and we'll see that, is there were some that were even adding this requirement that if you were married, you should refrain from sex even with your wife, that perhaps that would even make you closer to God.
