The New York Knicks Are World Champions! - Episode 273

They do.

Well, good afternoon, everybody, and welcome to the Jimmy Palumbo Show, show number 273, but a special show because 273 means 73, which can mean 1973.

And in 1973...

Dave's father was only 12.

And in 1973, there was a team out of New York playing in Madison Square Garden called the New York Knickerbockers, who won, beat the Lakers in five with Earl Monroe and Walt Frazier and an aging Willis Reed.

But a couple of days ago, something extraordinary happened that Dave has never seen in his lifetime.

He was only five, I think, when the Cowboys last won it.

Ten.

Ten.

There you go.

But out of San Antonio breaking news, once again, Jalen Brunson decided, you know what? Carl Towns thinks I'm going to put the mattress on my shoulders and I'm going to carry it up five steps and just win the whole damn thing.

And the New York Knickerbockers are... world champions for the first time in 53 years and of course my co-host behind the glass Mr. Dave Sturgeo with his world champion Nick hat that he got up early in the morning and left his kids alone in the house to go get them 11 hats and shirts and socks at Dick's Sporting Goods at the cost of $700 and now he's broke his kids don't eat but they are wearing championship hats and that's all that matters

Dave, how are we doing today? $425 at Dick's Sporting Goods, officially.

Everything they had was $45.

Everything.

Every item was $45.

And I was like,

oh.

I tell people all the time, if I was loaded, I would only shop at Dick's Sporting Goods because they have the nicest stuff there.

And the prices are outrageous.

And I would shop at only like Joseph A.

Banks and stores like that.

But I go in there, I'm like, oh, what a nice shirt.

Ooh, $175.

No, I can't do that.

And back to Kohl's and Marshall's we go.

But so you got your kids all geared up with stuff and your New York Knickerbockers.

Well, listen, before we get to all that, show number 273, we must talk about the number 73.

And that means 1973, last time the Knicks won it.

And also Kevin Belcher.

Offensive lineman on the Giants from 1984.

Even his family doesn't know who he is.

And, of course, your friend and mine, Cowboy Larry Allen,

Hall of Famer, one of the best offensive

linemen of all time.

You can make that argument.

And then there's a Ralph Neely.

Offensive tackle, and he also dealt with CTE issues.

Interesting story there.

And then you got John Hanna,

another Hall of Famer.

And also

an early Joe Klecko, who wore that number before he switched.

And, of course, the Knicks in 1973.
