Landry Shamet

Mm-hmm.

Happened on Christmas, it happened in the Landry Shamet game, and it happened again, I think, on this game where he gets overshadowed.

Um, and so if he's eligible, and I do think he is a little eligible.

That said, according to you, he's one of the three people that p- fans think about when they think of this game.

... against Orlando.

Um- He was playing, like guys went down.

You mentioned Landry Shamet's out, Miles McBride is out, and it's not, "Okay, we're only playing seven guys tonight." Now it's like, okay, Kolok, next man up.

Uh, uh, although [laughs] funny enough, he plays eight guys in this game.

Ryan, wow, how do the Knicks keep doing this? They did this with Shamet and Brogdon last year, and now they got real, like, they just got, like, a 15-win team full of guys on September 16th.

Oh, it's interesting.

The, the Knicks are one of those teams with the, the money that they have spent on their starting lineup.

And so what they've done is they haven't filled out some of their roster spots.

They're going to allow these guys to compete in training camp, and they've got some good names as a result of it.

These aren't names that you're expecting to play on a consistent basis because, again, they, they re-signed Landry Shamet, Jose Alvarado, Mohamed Diawara, Andre, uh, they got Andre Drummond, Jordan Clarkson.

Like, they've, they've got some guys that they can play off the end of their bench.

All right, it is time to get into, uh, the Bruce Brown of it all because, uh, when the Knicks signed John Konchar and Drew Eubanks, I was, I was intrigued, but when they signed Bruce Brown, I was like, "He got my attention." Um, and it is worth noting all of these contracts are exhibit nines.

Um, which basically is a training camp contract, but unlike an Exhibit 10, my understanding is if there's some kind of training camp injury, um, I, I think Landry Shamet one year the-- I know he had two separated shoulders.

I think one year it came...

No, it came really early in the season both times.

He wrote, "John Konchar chose the Knicks over other suitors, so he wouldn't have come to NYK without a solid chance to make final r- the final roster.

With Konchar under contract, Knicks have 14 players on NBA deals.

If Konchar makes the regular season roster, Knicks will be right up against the second apron." Um, worth noting here Circling back on Ian's comment, and circling back to some comments from Chris Persianen on our podcast a year ago, where, uh, he noted at the time when we were debating who was going to make the final roster spot, um, that he-- Or he didn't even note this, he had reporting on the idea that the Knicks were shopping Pacome Dadié, and I think to a lesser extent, if I'm remembering, uh, Tyler Kolek, uh, with the idea of keeping both Malcolm Brogdon and Landry Shamet.

And as we all remember, and as I just referenced a few minutes ago, Malcolm Brogdon ended up retiring.

I, I, I think this is a hyper-focused group, but also one that showed before they even won anything they're capable of not taking stretches of the regular season super seriously.

I do think something that benefits them there is under Mike Brown they've certainly found, like- An emotional synergy, and also I think faith that, like, there's not loyalty to any one guy over what's best to win a single game, and very similar to Joe Mazzulla, like, if he needs to sub out, like, a golden egg because Landry Shamet has hit, like, eight of his last nine threes, he's willing to do it.

And I think that philosophy and, and a willingness to pivot who they play through.

Like, some games are gonna be Kat as a hub, some games are gonna be Jalen go get 40.

Yeah, that makes it, that makes it a little, a little more challenging.

Uh, the best, the best news for the Knicks is Leon Rose has a long history of getting guys to agree to a lot less than what they're worth.

Like, L- recently it was Landry Shamet this summer who apparently had offers, like, up to twice as much as what he got from the Knicks and decided to stay.

So you hope that trend continues.

He's not gonna do that again.

And if he doesn't do that again, how much worse does it get, and what is sort of the trickle-down effect of the rest of the roster? Then you start relying, it's like, well, there's a whole lot of Landry Shamet happening right now for the New York Knicks.

And uh, we, I know that Shamet's a big guy in New York-

Ask the Cavaliers about it.

Ask the Cavaliers about having a lot of Landry Shamet happen, you know? [laughs]

Right.

Exactly.

They don't need to change all that much.

Like, there's different match-ups and assignments and this and that, and it's like, well, but doesn't that hurt them off the bench? Well, actually not really, because they have Landry Shamet [laughs] and they have Jordan Clarkson, and if they ever needed to tap it, you know, g- get Tyler Kulig for five minutes or something.

Jose Alvarado, I didn't mention him.

So because it, it's not, it, it's not, um, you know, a knock against OG.

Bruce Brown, John Konchar, Ochai Agbaji, James Wiseman, and Drew Eubanks.

And if you remember, Landry Shamet, uh, Malcolm Brogdon, and Garrison, uh, Matthews last year, three guys that did the same deal with the New York Knicks.

But Bruce Brown in particular is why we bring him up, because so many Sixer fans thought that he would've been a nice pickup, nice addition to the team, and he signs with the Knicks with five others as they try to ...

They have two of open roster spots.

Yeah.

So I, I could see him making that roster.

And I would say even if I'm not, I was not, you know, super gung-ho get Bruce Brown on this team, I wouldn't be completely stunned if he has a turnaround like Landry Shamet did there last year where he's-
