The 5 Solas | Sola Fide - Pastor Matt Baker - 10-4-26

Now, last week, we looked at sola gratia, grace alone.

Grace is what God does to us.

Grace is what God has bestowed on us.

Grace was God's choice to look at humanity, see our sin, see our failure, and decide to respond with mercy, all right? Grace is what God does.

And we're gonna look at faith, which is our response.

It's the way we receive the grace of God.

But even faith really is something God does but it's something God does in us and through us.

Even our capacity to trust and believe God, as Ephesians 2 says, is a gift of God.

Amen? And so we receive the grace of God by faith.

And so works and traditions of men were being added to the gospel as a requirement to be saved.

See, The call of sola fide is that it's faith and faith alone that saves us.

It's not faith and, it's not faith and works.

It's faith alone in what Jesus accomplished on the cross.

Faith alone in the blood of Jesus.

Are you thankful for the blood of Jesus this morning? You should be because it's the blood of Jesus is why you and I can be forgiven of our sins, amen? And a righteousness that he won be given to us.

And so the church was teaching, well, no, no, no, no, no, no. It's not faith alone.

It's faith and you have to do all these good works.

Well, the question of parishioners and Christians became, how many good works? What good works? Well, you gotta do a lot.

You gotta keep doing them.

Well, how will I know I'm saved? You won't.

You won't know if you're saved.

You'll just...

Keep doing these good works.

Keep paying this money to the church.

Keep doing this.
