We had our chance yesterday to talk about Monday Night Football, Saints, and Falcons.

So now I'm gonna take a look at some big picture stuff, and it's not a great look at some big picture stuff.

The most important piece of this puzzle that I'm about to try to put together is the quarterback.

In fact, I thought he played as well as he possibly could have under atrocious circumstances.

However, there are other pieces that need to come together, and this was something that we started last year and brought forth into the spring of this year, into this football season.

That the Saints had made an organizational shift away from trading draft assets by the truckload to move up a few spots to take one guy, that they were extending contracts and getting deeper and deeper into the pit of doom in terms of the salary cap, and they had pivoted from that two years ago.

Once Derek Carr was out the door, once Dennis Allen was out the door, they decided, "We're not trying to go for this whole thing," because Carr and Allen had their careers on the line.

It was worth it in that building to try to push as hard as possible when everyone was looking from the outside going, "That is a terrible idea." So they pivoted away from it, and they didn't overextend for free agents, and they didn't restructure massive contracts that were gonna end up being disasters.

And they didn't mortgage all their late draft picks to try to move up and get one.

In the draft class last year, rookies played well at times, especially the quarterback.
